ATM charges

Not sure this is correct. Fairly certain that if I use my Santander Uk card around Europe in a Santander machine I don’t get charged an ATM fee. I also don’t get charged any fee using my Cater Allen UK euro account when I take money out from cash machines around Quesada.

OK so "all" is only based on my experience of using my card in the countries I've been to. I should have said "many" or "most", but I've tried my Nationwide card in all Quesada and Rojales ATMs and they all charge around €2.

Santander - please take care with the reference to "free" withdrawls in Spain - that certainly applies to "SELECT" accounts in the UK (minimum £5k per month deposits or £75k balance) but not all the other types of accounts - best to check first to avoid potential heavy charges.

Depends on which Nationwide card you're talking about but none of them charge a flat €2

BTW Nationwide's current Euro exchange rate is a relatively poor 1.039 while the ECB rate is 1.13 so fees aside every £100 withdrawn is costing you €9.

I have a nationwide card and they charge 2.75%of the amount withdrawn plus a £1 for each withdrawal .so say 200 euros at 89 p to 1 euro = 200 x 89p = £178 x2.75%=£4.90p+£1 withdrawal so for 200 euro withdrawal it costs a extra £5.90 in charges from Nationwide plus a 2 euro charge from La Caixa. and the more you withdraw the more you pay of course.soon mounts up.

I withdrew cash from usual ATM at BANKIA and noticed a "service charge" as next entry on my statement, which happened to be 1% of the withdrawal. Never happened before. Is this something new, and BANKIA now charges for ATM use using BANKIA card? Or is it a coincidence?

Just drew some out with a Bankia debit card this morning and no charge, just what I withdrew.
No service charge listed on my online banking either.

Just to expand on some of the above posts....if you have a Santander UK bank account debit card you can withdraw cash from your UK account at Santander banks ATM's in Spain free of charge. If you withdraw it at any other bank or country, you will be charged.

The Nationwide changed their charges for the FlexPlus accounts on the 1 August. They no longer charge any fees for purchases or cash withdrawals on the FlexPlus debit cards but you may still charged a fee on cash withdrawals by the ATM operator. https://www.nationwide.co.uk/support/tr ... oreignCash
