Bank Charges (La Caixa)
Bank Charges (La Caixa)
by Cuz » Sun Jan 31, 2021 3:20 pm
I have been informed bank charges with La Caixa will be 35 euros per quarter, as of April 1st.
They say that the account I have set up with CaixaBank will be changed to a HolaBank Servicuenta, aimed at international customers. There are no extra benefits to myself. I am sure there will be many people in a similar position but, perhaps unware of it yet. Please reply if you've received a similar message from La Caixa.
If anyone knows of a bank that doesn't charge I would be grateful if you could let me know.
Thanks, Les.

When are these banks going to stop being so greedy and short sighted.
Many of us are voting with our feet and going to likes of Starling and Transferwise. I left Caixa because of charges last August and BBVA a year or so before.
They're in danger of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs

Yes ..I agree ...
They're in danger of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs..
I got my notice from La caixa too, 35e per quarter, and cos of Brexit they charged me 15e for depositing £500 from my PagoFX app into my La Caixa account.
I understand every business in Spain wants to Survive..But the brits in this region of Spain bring a lot of money in and try to increase the standard of living.
Im hoping UK and Spain can have a better relationship in the future and realise that UK is good for Spain !

Yes I have had a letter notifying me of the same changes and the new charge of 35 euros/quarter from its April. Won’t be long before the UK banks start doing the same.

UK banks have charged similar & often more expensive account charges for years now so Spain is just catching up. There are however ways to reduce or avoid charges so recommend talking to your bank advisor, this generally means 'buying' some of their products but at least its an option.
Sadly the days of something for nothing are disappearing.

If you need a Spanish bank account then the BBVA Va Contigo account is free if you meet their conditions (paying in so much a month / quarter etc). Or they have a Fee-Free online only account for new customers. If you don't need a Spanish bank account then TransferWise can also be free depending on what you want to do with it. I have both Va Contigo and TransferWise at the moment. Someone else posted about the Cajamar Wefferent account the other day which is also free and operated online only.
