Why bother checking for caps, just change to a bank with an account that doesn’t charge you a penny, I’ve had one for well over a year, not a penny charged, and I don’t need to constantly check either. Just go and ask.

i am not checking for caps, i am simply asking if the change in law applies to non resident accounts. I dont know what bank you use or your personal circumstances but your reply was rather pointless and unhelpful.

I am a non resident and changed to Bankia in the high street last summer, they do not charge any fees. A huge saving for non residents

Well said, andyrad!

Daz, why brag about your free account, but not share the bank name and account type with the forum??

lol it aint no secret, and nowt nasty about what I put, and as for bragging?? bless ya, we just gotta laugh. ive offered several answers for fee free accounts on this site, do a search. and I simply said go and ask about one, no need to be asking about fee changes. Santander zero account is the one I have, but not everybody wants the same. other banks offer a similar fee free account if you jump through some basic hoops. I don't know what else to say.

….just tip toeing out of the room now …...lets hope I make it to the door. feel free to ask what ever you like. if I can answer, I will.

...Just as I thought that someone had useful a fee free account I now find he had to jump through more than the usual hoops!
Santander Zero account = €600 per month income + debit /credit card to be used at least 6 times per quarter + 3 direct debits..... At least it's only the €700 income with Sabadell expansion account.

BTW Neither of these accounts are "fee free" if you have to "jump through some basic hoops".

To original poster: I do hope that the new charges cap will apply to non residents.

If it helps I got this reply today from Bankia about their Cuenta On Account - it is an online account but you do get a debit card and it looks genuinely free with minimum hoops to jump through. I sent a further e-mail ask if they would change / take over my direct debits and do it for me as they do in the U.K. - but they replied to say I have to do that myself.

You sound like an angry chap lol, you haven’t listed the full story. but none of it matters does it, it works for me, I was simply sharing the info in case it might have been useful for you, or it might not. I won’t be logging into this topic anymore. I wish you well, and good luck in your own search.
