Bankers Draft charges? Is there a better way to pay?

We had also transferred our money with Moneycorp. Sabadell charged us 300€ for the Bankers draft on 195000 €
Ridiculous
We didn't take the bank insurance it's too expensive try Jennifer Cunningham in Benijofar. Sabadell only knock 75 € off for having their insurance and we saved 120€

Try Currencyfair, we transfere money from our English bank to our Spanish bank and they charge us 3 euros, Very efficient and we get a very good rate. Definatley worth looking at.

Banks make a lot of money from this practice and it's even worse for those who are selling and transferring their funds back to their home country. A friend in April transferred €220k in euros, to Holland when they sold their house and were charged €700 by Solbank in Quesada because they were closing the account. It's just an opportunity to charge heavily because they'll never see them again. Anyway, in your circumstances, in the first instance check with your solicitor. Did you open the account at Solbank on their recommendation? If so, then you might find that they also bank there and if you transfer the money to their clients' account then you won't be charged. They then usually have an agreement with the bank not to be charged for client's fund transfers for purchase completions, so you should get the whole thing for free. Either way, ask your solicitor, they can usually advise best because they deal with this every other day.

if you are buying from froma british expat, agree an exchange rate , then get a sterling bank draft, this has to be presented to the notary on the day of sale, it will be more beneficial for the seller, and cheaper for you and is perfectly acceptable in spain

I think the original post said that the money was already here in Spain, so it's solutions in Euros that will need to be found. Still best to speak to your lawyer. They will usually have some good contacts and be able to help. Good luck

Yes Jim, you're right. I didn't mean to sound dismissive.
There are complication with this regarding such points as taxes and agents fees, but a lawyer can advise on each case individually. Thanks

hi all

thanks for the info
just found out the bank(Sabadell)want to charge 250ish euros on 72k draft!!
reduced to 150 if we take out their ins(240)
our English bank would charge £20(28euros) bit of a difference!
what can we do,we,re in spain and they have us across a barrel,we have a completion
date of 24th aug so cant mess about too much.
we have asked our solicitor if we can get around this,i.e transfer into her acc(in 2 payments
so we keep below 50k each payment)then transfer to the vender at the notary
which has been suggested by an earlier post.
could always turn up with a carrier bag full of cash!!
the venders are german, so that avenue is closed to us

many thanks alan t
