Just had a message from Caixa that states charges on account have been increased from 12 euros a quarter to 50. Does anyone know if BBVA still free of charges for current account, do they have a branch nearby Quesada, and how easy or difficult is it to change banks in Spain

Lucky you,, Just got the same message but mine has gone from 12 to 60 Euro per qtr. possibly as I am non resident. They are obviously looking to reduce their client numbers.

Just read the letter on my caixa app.
It appears they are saying if you have €600 salary or €300 pension paid in monthly - or €20,000 invested with them - then it will be €15 per month.
If on top of that you have 3 direct debits per month or 3 transactions paid with your card then banking will be free!
If you have none of the above it will be €60 per month.
We are non resident so maybe the €50 per month is for residents.
I am retired and would happily transfer €300 per month via transferwise into my caixa account but I am not sure if they will accept that?
We are flying out tomorrow so I will ask.
We are not in Quesada but you would think it would be the same everywhere.

We to were "cond" by the agent we brought through in much the same way and would like out as they have stopped incoming payments WITHOUT any warning.
Is there a Spain equivalent to the SWITCH system operated by UK banks as I have now to pay Spanish DD from UK which is expensive.
When I complained all they said was "You have to come in and talk to us" Did not understand there phrase "We are currently in UK" - anyone know ?
Really Really poor Customer Service
TIA
Geoff

This is because, every two years, it is a ECB ruling that everyone with an account should validate and confirm their identity. This is for everyone, residents and non-residents, Spanish and foreign and, yes, a right pain in the butt.
Our bank, Bankia, has a system where non-residents are sent an email about this and will accept a reply by email to stop your account being blocked but you have to attend the bank next time you are in Spain. Residents have to attend their branch with a photo ID.
It won't matter what bank you go with, all banks must now do this although some seem a bit more casual about it than others. The really annoying thing is that you don't get notification before you have to do this. Mine was simply blocked and my wife got a phone call to update her account at the branch but the account had already been blocked.
If you want to change accounts, the bank you are with should provide you with a printout of all the payments you make (DD etc) with the reference numbers. You can take this to your new bank and they will use the references to start the payments. Of course, anything you don't do on direct debit you would have to notify the payee of the new IBAN and BIC.

Has anyone any experience of the Starling Euro Account. They have an IBAN so there should (in theory) be no problem setting up direct debits. With regards to the Non Resident police check all the banks charge 15 euros per individual named on the account every 2 years. This is nothing to do with the banks it is simply a check by the police that you are still living at the same address. There is nothing to stop you going into the police station and doing it yourself.

In case its of any help, I have a Santander Zero account and its rules are similar insofar as I must pay in €600 minimum and have at least 2 direct debits per month. I must also invest €100 of that income into Santander shares (but can immediately sell those if so desired). That is (currently) at no cost per month or quarter - obviously that may change.
Not sure if they offer a similarly reduced pay in PCM for those receiving a pension but might be worth having a look.
