Caixa changes update
Caixa changes update

We have been into Caixa today and have had to open a new account,
We have been told the account will be free, if you have a pension going in (minimum 300)
Direct Debits and you use the account it will be free
The biggest change is that debit cards will now cost 36€ but they will give you a free credit card! This card can be used at the ATM to withdraw cash,

Does anyone know if the monthly deposit has to be a pension? I ask as I am 68 - so do you think I would get away with just paying €300 in each month via transferwise - as I take my private pension in a lump sum each year or would you think it has to be a state pension payment or from a recognized pension provider? Also we are not resident's.

I would think it's the same as Sabadell, as long as the amount is transferred into your account it can come from anywhere. We normally have a bulk amount of money over once a year rather than monthly and we will continue to do so, we shall just transfer the amount required from my parents account and then we transfer it back a few days later. We asked if that was acceptable and they said yes. So that's what we shall do.

Will check it out next week when I will be going into branch - but I know in the U.K. most bank deals are as you say “just interested in you making a regular deposit” - and my age should hopefully qualify me for the lower (€300) amount - which is acceptable but as non residents the €600 option is a bit too high to spend whilst out here.

I’m sure it’s got to be a pension direct from your pension provider, as we have always had a regular monthly transferred from our U.K. bank using a money exchange company but have had to arrange for one of my husbands pension to now get paid direct to the our account, the 300 is the minimum
Should say we are residents

We were upfront about transferring the money from my parents account and they agreed that was OK. Agreed about that but not the green A4 residencia, you just can't win sometimes.

It seems to me that there is no consistency in what banks want or have to have. We have to pay in €700 a month which Sabadell collect via a DD with TSB and are UK bank, to avoid any charges, nothing to do with pension at all.
Will check other banks as this seems excessive and we still pay €5 month in fees.
