Currency Transfers

Re: Currency Transfers

Has anyone transferred money into Sabadell since the changeover from Halifax/Lloyds. We may use Halifax UK to transfer our next amount to Sabadell - Halifax charge £9.50 (and of course the exchange rate!) but not sure how much, if any, Sabadell charge to receive the money into our account. Does anyone know?

We are also checking out the companies recommended on here for foreign transfer too, before proceeding.

Be grateful for any answers.

Jan

We use Currencies Direct and have never had any charges from Sabadell. It does take about a week for the money to be credited in the account but there are no charges at either end. I also compare rates with a few other companies offering the same service and so far I have found that if they offer a better rate their charges mean that it costs more or if they offer a same day or similar service to credit the account the rate is worse.
So long as you can manage your accounts to allow for the time to be credited in the account it works fine with no charges and a good rate.
I have just checked their site, currently they offer a rate of 1.218 Euro per GBP for a transfer of GBP 300. Pretty good and would only change for a much larger amount.

Hi Currencies Direct were great when we used them, we also use FairFx Currency card for instant transfers the rate is normally the best on the market for small amounts and can be done almost instantly it is recommended by Martins Money Saving Expert website. the card normally costs 9.99 to start an account but if you use the link below you get the card free, I can load money onto my card from my mobile and funds are usually on within an hour. and I can take up to 500 euros a day from the card I normally draw money at Barclays in Quesada.

Jan

I have transferred money from my UK Halifax account to my Sabadell accounts about 4 times since the change over. I transfer over 400-500 euros at a time.

I have not incurred any charges by either Halifax or Sabadell.

I transferred money last week and got 1.16 Euro to the £. Which may not be great but no charges ( I appreciate the charges may be hidden in the fact you do not get such a good exchange rate).

I was assured by Sabadell staff that I would not incur any charges for transfers from my UK Lloyds and Halifax accounts.

Thanks Panchotaff- Will check again but thought there was a charge with Halifax to Sabadell as they are not affiliated banks.

Jan

I was told it was part of the take over deal that Halifax & Lloyds accounts had special treatment.

I have seen it written somewhere in the information / leaflets given to me by Sabadell.

Will try to find the information and send you a copy.

We use money Corp, no charges for the money going into sabadel
But we get charged £5 for changing by money Corp. But we are very happy with the service, we are set up for alerts when the exchange rate is at it's best, we then transfer some funds.

That's interesting thank you. I think I will do a Halifax to Sabadell transfer first to test it and see how it goes, before I decide whether it's best to use a currency transfer company.

Watch this space!

Jan.

PS Thank you everyone for all the other recommendations.

Hi Jan I would suggest checking the rates first as we are Barclays customers in UK and Spain although we would not have to pay charges the rates on exchange are always rubbish compared to any of the leading transfer companies.
