Hello and a Question re. La Caixa/B.Valencia

Postby Mickey Braw » Fri Mar 21, 2014 1:03 pm

First off let me start by saying hello to you all.
I have been browsing this forum for some time now and have finally decided to take the plunge.
My question is does anyone know what happened to Anita who used to work at the Bank of Valencia/La Caixa in Avenida Las Naciones. I was told she'd be back but this has gone on for months now and it is obvious that
she has left. I ask for two reasons, one that the charges at La Caixa are very high and secondly that if Anita is working for another bank, she has always been very helpful to us and we would like to possibly move our account. Thanks in advance.
Mickey.

Hi Mickey,
:text-welcomewave:
Welcome to TalkQuesada.

Hope you get an answer to your question soon.

It's interesting about the charges as we have just joined Sabadell (involuntarily, due to Lloyds, who did not charge for anything like our UK banks, being taken over by Sabadell) and are waiting to see what the charges are like. The information is very confusing, possibly because of the translation in the paperwork we have been sent and the website. Some people have jumped ship but, being in the UK until April, we couldn't do this before our account was transferred.

It would be good to have a compare list of all the banks in Spain and what they charge.

Sabadell 'appeared' from their paperwork to have a policy that if there was a minimum of 600 euros in the account at all times there would be no charges but word on the street and forum now says that this is the amount that needs to be deposited every month. It is very confusing.

Also, it doesn't bode well that Sabadell, a few days before the transfer, took 49 euros from our account without informing us what it was for. We have since found out through Twitter that this is to pay for the Non-residents declaration that has to be submitted by the bank every two years. We understand now that most banks charge for this (Lloyds and Halifax in Spain didn't!) but it was like they couldn't wait a second to grab this money. We haven't even been sent the form to fill in yet as the last one is still current! Imagine how much money they have gained in the few seconds it must have taken to grab that payment from every customer that has been transferred to them.

We will be trawling the banks when we are next in Quesada to get some comparisons, so hopefully if the information is understandable I can put it on the forum.

Hi

New to this forum but also a customer now of Sabadell due to the Halifax/Lloyds take over and hearing that various charges are being applied to customer accounts. Like Jan we are unable to get to Quesada till June, due to health problems, so would be interested to hear any further comments.

I've just been down to Sabadell in Ave Antonio Quesada because we've had €74.14 taken off for non- residents declaration plus 3 monthly charge of €12.50 ( i.e. €50 a year! ) If we want free banking we need to pay in at least €700 a month.
I'm now looking round for a better deal.

Hi Maria elena,
We have been charged 49.94 euros for our non residence declaration, for both of us with Sabadell so 74.14 seems too much - The debit was shown as SEPA on the statement.

We are also being charged 12.50 euros each quarter for maintenance but although we were a bit disappointed at first, we thought if that is all Sabadell are charging then it's not as bad as it could be as when we were with Bankinter 8 years ago, for just a few months, they seemed to charge for every little thing. We opened the Bankinter account when we came over to buy a property and deposited 100 euros just to open the account and closed it after opening a Halifax account and were refunded less than 60 euros - We were charged for doing nothing, no transactions whatsoever!

Apparently, so we heard, all Spanish banks charge for the non-residence forms and we have just been lucky that Halifax/Lloyds didn't charge us. However I thought it was a bit much for Sabadell to charge us straight away, when our non-residence forms are still in date and not due to be filled in and submitted for another year (as they are every two years!!!).

Let us know if you get a better deal with any other bank.

I had a query on our latest statement from Sabadell who took 149 euros off the account shown as SEPA, it was our intention to question this when we are in Quesada in June but on reading the reports this explains it. Still going to query it.

Anyone found a better Bank yet??????

Hi Jennifer,
We were only charged 49.94 euros (for both on a joint account). Are you sure it was 149 as this seems too much? I would query this if I were you.

You can Tweet the Sabadell bank any questions and this worked well for us, when we were having problems after the change-over - They are very efficient on Twitter and will phone you back, if necessary, even in the UK.

Hi,
We have today been to Sabadell bank in Quesada and the lady we spoke to was very helpful. She spoke good English and explained things to us and cleared up a few misunderstandings.

Apparently, she said, the 'Sepa' direct Debit was not to do with the Non-Residence tax form, it was the last direct debit sent out during the changeover by the previous bank, in our case it was an Iberdrola payment.

We asked about charges on the account and she said there is only the quarterly maintenance charge and the one off charge per year for our debit cards and no other account charges except for our non residence tax form declaration of 25 euros each every 2 years.

She also confirmed the minimum balance to keep in the account, to not incur any other charges, is 150 euros.

Even though our main branch is in Torrevieja, she also confirmed that it's not worth changing branches as we can use any branch for most things. For any queries on the actual account or for getting money out over the counter you need to show your password though. For general questions, as we had today, they don't need a passport but we showed our debit cards.

The bank has a 'take a ticket' to be seen system, like most banks have here, and it worked well today even though there was a big queue when we went in. They had four desks to go to be seen.

All in all we were very impressed with the service at the counter. The ATM is easy to use and understand too and English can be selected with no problem.

As the maintenance charge is all we will be paying each quarter, above what we were paying with our previous bank, I think we will stay with Sabadell. They do appear to be a long standing trusted bank and hopefully not so liable to have problems like the other banks in Spain have had.

Hope this helps anyone wondering what to do after this changeover.
