Help Needed (again) - Newbie

Help Needed (again) - Newbie

Postby Gandy1976 » Thu Mar 28, 2019 2:19 pm

Hi all thanks for all your help recently but I have another query ......

I was going to start transferring £200 per month to cover the costs of my D/D's (I have no idea what the costs will be yet so this may be more ) from my English account into my Caixa account .

Upon doing this Sanatnder (UK ) wanted to charge me £15 and then they mention a charge when it hits my Spanish account too ......it is also a rubbish X/C rate
Am I doing this correct ?? is this what will happen every month ??

Thanks in Advance

You need a transferwise account.

You pay GDP to your T/W account (transfer for no cost) and then you pay your T/W monies across in Euro. The exchange rate using T/W is about as good as you will get.

The only ball ache is the fact you cannot as yet set up a standing order with T/W. Obviously you can arrange a DD/So from your UK account to your T/W account, but for the onward transmission to Caixa you will need to do that manually each month. Not too much of an issue mind.

Here's a video they have explaining it but its quite straight forward.

We worked out that it's best to put in a lump sum a couple of times a year to cover expenses as it still costs around £1O however much you transfer (we use Halifax UK to Sabadell Spain but Sabadell don't charge to receive)

If you still want to do a monthly transfer there may be better ways that I'm sure others will recommend if they haven't already while I've been posting this lol

PGA is correct in everything he says. TransferWise is the best way to go. As for d/d. There is a button that says repeat this transfer. It is very simple and always best rates. Sometimes transferred in seconds but always very quick.

HI Gandy1976

You could also take a look at XE Money Transfer at xe.com, who I use

The best bit is commission :D

I use currencies Direct..

We pay money into Currencies Direct each month from my UK bank account (no cost)... then I have a DD from Currencies Direct to Bankia each month (no cost).. if I want to add to the monthly amount, or reduce it, even for a one-off, it is easy to do too..

But there are lots of companies doing similar transactions and I am not particularly recommending this company .. but CD works for me and I have never had a problem with them...

Shop around for one that suits you..

Transferwise.com, simple to follow instructions and costs very little ? couple of quid? You won’t go far wrong with that one.

Yep, TransferWise. Set up an account and transfer manually each month. Simple to do, good exchange rates with very little commission.
