Non Resident Bank Account

Non Resident Bank Account

Postby Rone » Tue Apr 16, 2019 7:38 pm

Sorry to raise this topic again but I have searched the forum without success. Some time ago a poster named a bank where it was possible to open an ‘on line only account. ‘ which incurred no charges provided ithe account was in credit. No minimum balance and no monthly minimum deposit. The bank even offered to send a courier to your UK home address to collect copies of NIE certificate.
I was sure it was mentioned on this forum, or perhaps I have read it some where else. Greatfull for any assistance NAME THAT BANK please.

There is a relatively new online European bank called N26. Google for more information.

We are considering leaving a Bankia because since we gave them back their cash card ( charged for it and we have no use for it)we cannot access our account online.

We have had an online bank account in the UK for many years called IF. ....Intelligent finance and have found it excellent. So, imagine that N26 should work perfectly for us.

I've just signed up with N26. I'm UK resident but signed up with Spanish address & Spanish tax number (wouldn't accept my UK NI number). Identity checks are done via video call, you'll need your passport. Very easy to set up, all good so far. I only want the account to pay our direct debits for our bills in Spain, I'm fed up of paying Sabadell €140 per year!
I'll let you know how I get on.

Not for existing accounts. All Spanish banks are supposed to offer a new low charges account but they don't have to tell you about it.

Thanks for the Bankia tip. Unfortunately the free standard account (as opposed to the salary account) does not include direct debits. Thanks anyway

Thanks. This was def not the bank I had previously looke at but N26 is def worth looking into.

Incidentally the reason I am looking to change is that we have currently got an account with La Caxa. They made a mistake and changed our uk post code address (subniied it as an S instead of a 5). The police froze our account and a new bi annual non res certificate, change of address, had to be submitted. La Caxa not only charged for new police certificate but also a bank charges on top. complete rip off.
