I doubt it...Are you a fiscal resident? Which is different from being on the list of foreigners ( which is what everyone calls ' residency' but it's not the whole shebang. ) The bank will currently have you as a non resident, the change is needed if you are becoming a fiscal resident . Then they will change your bank details from non resident to resident, you'll have access to accounts and services only residents get etc and they report to the Spanish tax authorities accordingly. Being a fiscal resident is about being resident for tax purposes and there's different rules on that ( how many days you spend in the year, your " centre of economic interests", main home etc. ).

The bank has to send a certificate ( every year or maybe every two years)/to the tax people saying you are non resident if you are not fiscal resident. If you intend to be fiscal resident but only moved over and did the residency/ list of foreigners thing in the last month or two you won't be tax resident anyway until this Jan just starting (and don't do a tax return until 2021), so just tell them now and don't worry about it.

Just to add to what Shiva has said, if you live in Spain for 183 days or more each year, you become a fiscal resident in Spain - it is not a matter of choice.
