Ring-Fencing of UK Banks

I've just notified Santander (UK) that I have moved permanently to Spain and no problem, I can keep my UK accounts and they will send all correspondence to my Spanish address.

I have an English Credit and Debit card and have no problems, they know I live here, my statements get sent here. I have a pension paid into HSBC and my state pension in La Caixa. UK pension is a teachers pension so gets taxed at source in the UK, state pension is sent directly to La Caixa and I declare that for Spanish tax.
Yes, if you have a UK account when you move then they will allow you to keep it, no problem.
However, just to point out your teacher's pension should not be taxed in UK if you are a Spanish resident (and living here 20 years I guess you are). It is not a government pension and does not come under the dual taxation agreement. You should have filled in an FD9 to HMRC so that the pension is not taxed in UK but does get taxed in Spain.
A friend of ours has just fallen foul of this with a NHS pension (also not a government pension) and has been hit with the tax for the last 7 years by the Spanish hacienda. Now she has to try and claim the money she has paid to the UK tax people for the last 7 years.

Unfortunately, as with a lot of these types of things, there's a lot of scaremongering going on.
For the vast majority, day to day banking will remain as-is. In fact, in my employee's case, the only things that are changing are the bank account number for the non-regulated entities (as those bank accounts will no longer be funded directly by UK Treasury), and their registered address.

Wow! All different. No wonder I'm confused.
Looks like I need a better bank though. They have told me, face-to-face, that I can't have a UK account because I am non-resident, regardless of my UK address, passport, NI number, etc., etc.
And don't get me going on UK car insurance...
Roll on retirement when I can become UK resident again and put all this c--p behind me. BB.

Further to previous posts.
NatWest wrote to me about a month ago to say I couldn't open a current account in UK as I am non resident and already have one account with them. This was after I'd been told by their telephone advice centre that I could.
They have now written to me and apologised for making a mistake and that I can, indeed, open another current account with them. I have had to complete the EU non-UK resident application form again and have sent it off.
Hopefully this time someone who knows what they are doing will open one for me (I've put the letter they sent saying I can open an account in with the application form).
No wonder us consumers get confused.
(The reason I wanted to change accounts was that I had one of those phishing emails (which I didn't open) but it quoted the last 4 numbers of my current account which was a bit worrying.
I've changed my email address for security reasons but still not happy someone could access the account number).
