Santander Bank in Quesada

Santander Bank in Quesada

Postby Paulr » Tue Nov 05, 2019 4:40 pm

Hi,

Just wanted to ask if there are any residents who have an account at the Quesada branch of Santander? Please can you advise whether they have English speaking staff? Does Santander charge for resident accounts? Are they partnered with any other Spanish banks where you can use their ATMs free of charge?

Any other info and experiences about Santander that would be useful please - good or bad!

Many thanks,
Paul

I have an account with them. The manager there is a chap called Carsten and speaks pretty good English.

Cash withdrawals are free with Santander ATMs and also some others but not all. For example, the machine at the golf course is free to use for me, but the Sabadell one in Quesada is subject to a charge.

I have the Select 123 account and its free subject to having 2 direct debits attached to it, and at least €600 paid in each month.

Biggest negative for me was nearly falling over when I was told the 0.7% commission to issue a bankers draft when I bought a house. Santander are significantly higher than other banks (some as low as 0.4%). No idea why writing a cheque should be on a percentage basis but when spending a few hundred thousand euro on a property that smarts a bit to then pay over 4 figures to the bank to write a sodding cheque. Quite why Spain haven't reached the 1990's and have electronic payments is yet another mystery.

Been with them 5 years and no problems. Most as previous comment, but Carsten has now moved on. The new mananger Filipe speaks English, as does Julian, and Miguel to a certain extent, which is better than my "technical" Spanish.
I have no experience of the staff at the new branch just below the Chinese, but you can get money easier from their cash dispenser.

had Santander es account for nearly two years, not been charged a cent since day one, for what I would describe as standard banking activity. for example, I pay in over 600eu a month using transferwise, then use the bank cards for withdrawing cash from any ''Santander'' cash machine, and paying for shopping etc... no fees for withdrawing cash from any ''santander'' cash machine, but I am told fees are chargeable from non Santander machines. spain Santander has no link to uk santander, they run completely separately.

The trick is, if you find you are accruing too much by transferring 600eu a month ( to avoid being charged the account fee of 3eu) then simply once every 6 months or so, just transfer some back to the
uk, simple.

there are other banks out there that I am told offer similar fee free transactions, but so far Ive not looked for any.

Many thanks for all your responses. We're currently with Sabadell, who have just introduced a new fee for Residents' bank accounts, whereby we're charged Eu 15 per quarter, unless we have a direct monthly payment of Eu 700 (pension or salary), plus 2 direct debits. Their online banking is very good, but even better, they have the widest network of ATMs - my wife wants to change, but I'm thinking that not having to drive miles for a cashpoint is probably worth Eu 15 per quarter.

I have been a client of Santander in Quesada for over 10 years and have no problems. The manager Carsten Tusker has been moved to Santander in Cabo Roig but he was a perfect manager in Quesada. No only did he speak English but he would answer emails very quickly. A great manager who made the bank a pleasure to use.
I am not aware of the new manager so cannot make any comments about him.
Hope this helps you choose your bank.
