Transfer money into Spanish account from Spanish account

For any work or services done I usually make payments in cash. As I was in the UK and needed to make a payment I transferred money from my Spanish bank account to the other person's Spanish bank account online using SEPA. I was surprised that my bank made a charge for the transaction. Perhaps because in the UK I move money around without a charge and I expected the same with a Spanish bank. I pay quarterly charges to the bank so I didn't expect a charge on an individual transfer. I was originally with Banco Halifax which was taken over by Lloyds International before it withdrew from Spain, so used to English ways. I then changed to a Spanish bank so maybe I am naïve and should I be more aware of services that are charged?
