we have a Brit Box, does the same as Airbox only cheaper, it depends on what your internet is, I don't care what anyone else says, you need 6 meg.

Airbox is a 40 pound raspberry pi circuit board, flashed with linux, re-skinned, reboxed and put out at a substantial sum more. Tested & discounted as under powered. It works, but at the price they are asking, you may as well get a proper subscription package which is considerably better.

britbox is pretty much the same as one of the IPTV systems we supply - smart iptv mini, with slight differences in software / set up. Only main difference after a brief look, is we may have a little more flexibility as can supply / configure with VPN for bbc iplayer (or netflix etc).

Issues such as freezing may be down to your internet, rather than hardware supplied, so with any form of IPTV there can be issues outside the main unit causing trouble. We have received a couple of returns only to test them and work 100% and faults eventually diagnosed to a clients router.

With the subscription free type boxes, the streams / channels as they are all different (IE not hosted by a single service provider) the quality and stream rates can vary considerably. For an average film 2 - 2.5 meg stable should be fine, however an HD film will fall over on this speed and require 5-6 or possibly more depending on how the original file has been encoded.

To confuse matters further, live streams can be a different issue entirely. Looking at picture quality sometimes you would expect speeds to be required at 2 meg +/- however sometimes (as mentioned above) you seem to need faster speeds - this is more of an issue with the loading of the free servers - live TV especially football is a real test for some equipment. Again streams / channels vary in output and server capability - so yes you can get free sport, but it is not quite as perfect as some retailers would have you believe - still good value when not paying for the channels or service.

Ultimately a hosted solution where channels are all optimised equally, with the right equipment and service provider will give you a better picture for your internet speed & offers all the modern bells & whilstles - such as catch up TV - however you pay a monthly or yearly fee, for a company to provide a good service & software & interface more robust & simpler - rather than more technical to use & variation of free stuff & quality on the internet.

Don't believe all the marketing hype.

I have currently an unsatisfactory TV service, inherited with the house recently acquired in Quesada, Dona Pepa ll.

I have 4mb Internet provided by OLe.

I am looking on improving my TV and would value any advice on the subject.

Much appreciate any constructive feedback from the Forum.

I am probably best qualified to answer, though some may say I am commercially biased to the company I work for (it's my job).

We offer all options of TV and I have been offering support for communities and individuals for different TV services over the years.

Options.

1. Satellite dish, best quality - original format with both picture and digital audio. Options of Sky. If free to air, no ongoing subscriptions. Long term - the cheapest.

2. IPTV - 2 types - subscription free & subscription based - quite a lot of variation in systems, channels and performance, you may wish to review the link which gives a general overview of this subject as well as further links to related equipment - http://tvtech.sharepoint.com/Pages/IPTV ... ision.aspx

Paul, TV Techie, I much appreciate your reply, and I am very interested in the advice you can offer. I will be returning to Spain 10th April, at which time I will give you a call, with a view to furthering our discussion and potentially doing business.
