Amazon firestick

This topic has probably been covered but
would a UK bought fire stick work in Spain
Can it be set up to work in Spain or would one bought locally be better

Yep I have 4 all from the UK and take them away with us in our motorhome, they work fine with good WiFi

Buying a Firestick in the UK using a UK Address on your account allows you to download UK apps.
Buying a Firestick in Spain using a Spanish address, only allows you to download Spanish apps.

This is because your address location determines your allowable Amazon based apps to download and watch.

This can be got round, if you buy in Spain, then register your Firestick to a UK account,you will then get UK apps you can download like iplayer, ITV hub, however officially they will not work if the streaming app is outside of its geographical registered area.

So if you have a UK address, buy in UK.

Since Brexit,the UK is no longer part of the Digital single market, so we have seen Roaming charges being returned in 2022, and Companies like Now TV, Netflix and Amazon are applying different terms to you if you watch in Spain. For example before Brexit Netflix would allow you to watch UK content, now it restricts you to watch what the Spanish watch, so not all UK content is available.

As with everything there are many ways round this to fool the Firestiick in Spain to give you UK content eg changing your DNS settings, using a VPN etc.

Feel free to message me if you need further info or help on Firesticks as people still buy them, and expect them to stream TV and Movies in Spain as they do in the UK. Which as you correctly say, its not suported outside the UK. (Officially!)

Thanks for all your advice, very helpful, so what you are saying is unless you change your DNS settings and set up VPN
you won`t be able to access amazon prime etc?
I`m not tech savvy but is it straight forward to install VPN and change DNS settings?
Does the same apply to smart tv`s with pre installed apps eg amazon and netflix?

You can access UK Amazon tv in Spain by logging in with a UK Prime subscription (you will need a UK address - your own or family, to do this)
Log into Firestick or app on smart television.
We have Prime subscription for both UK and Spain so can access UK and Spanish Amazon tv. No issues at all with good internet connection. You can also change language setting on the Spanish Amazon to English. If you have two tv’s you can have Spanish Amazon on one and UK on the other. If not, just log out then log back in again with Amazon of your choice. You don’t need VPN or anything.
(This is only necessary for iptv)

Officially as UK is not part of the single digital market Amazon UK subscription should not work in Spain as it would in the UK.
. Like the mobile networks, most are not introducing new rules till 2022, so at the moment roaming charges don't apply, this could be the same as Amazon but really don't think so.
Before the single digital market Amazon UK did not work in Spain without using a VPN or a DNS change, so we can only assume this will revert back to how it was previously a few years ago.
Its very easy to get round using a VPN etc, however anything free has to nake their money somehow, they either steal your data for narketing purposes, or use your bandwidth when you are idle. Its best not to use a free VPN..

As previously mentioned about Netflix, the same applies to Amazon Prime where you wont receive the same content as you would in the UK.
This is the comment from Amazon regarding Prime Video in Spain.

Can I Watch Prime Video If I Travel Abroad?
Amazon Prime members are able to stream selected Amazon Originals titles while outside of their home country.

Outside of your home country, a reduced selection of Prime Video titles is available to stream. A selection marked "Watch While Abroad" shows the available titles.

If you have a compatible device, you are able to download titles before you travel in order to watch offline anywhere in the world.

Note: As the United Kingdom has left the European Union, customers from the United Kingdom traveling to the European Union will not have access to the same titles as they do when watching Prime Video in their home country.

Apps on Smart TV,s are no different to apps on Firesticks.
Its very easy to add a VPN or use a Smart DNS supplier as Firesticks are dead easy to set up. Unfortunately with Smart TV.s you are limited by the manufactures app store etc as to what you can download or change on your network settings.
