Any techies can advise me?

Apple TV is too expensive for what you need.
Chromecast - cheap but limited.

If you buy any android TV box, this will plug straight into your TV, give you Youtube, Netflix etc and if you want to use or download any other video files, you can also use the same box to play them back and also download any other software you need to. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Android-Quad-C ... CLK&sr=8-4 as a pretty cheap example with reasonable spec. With all this type of equipment, the cheaper it is, the slower/clunkier it will be - but for a cheap job, this'll probably do just fine. You can even get full sized keyboards to plug in, to help if you do a fair piece of typing - let me know if you need pointing in the direction of one of those.

Sure you can tune your laptop and just transfer the video to your TV, here a few helpful links:

Thank you all for your replies, but in the original post I asked for a way to connect via wifi..

I know I can connect via HDMI but don´t want the cables trailing about, I just wondered if it could be done by a dongle or other wifi device..

But thanks to all who responded..

If you have all you PC and Laptop equipment on a home network setup on your router setup then you can use wifi to transfer most things from one to another very easy to setup

I can load films from my PC or Mobile onto the TV no problem

Sounds perfect..I have a laptop about 5 meters from my router and a Box that my TV is plugged into to get TV, via wifi from the router..

Now, (I think) all I need is to set up a way of transmitting signals from my laptop to my TV (or TV box) via the router..

Sounds simple.. until I looked it up on the link kindly given by jpeg..

I´ll have to digest it a bit more I think.

But thank you..

A lot of what you may or may nor be able to do will depend on your Tv's operating system.

If it's not Android you'll likely find it restricted in what you can use as a player and in turn which file types it will play.

Modern Samsung Tv's for instance are not Android but Tizen and because of that you're limited to using the crappy built in Windows Media Player interface which only supports avi files.

EDIT:Just looked back and see you don't actually have a Smart TV so the above does not apply.

Non of these problems occur with Apple TV. It’s all done over WiFi and ‘used’ 3rd generation boxes are less than €50

add either a Microsoft HMDI of Google Chromecast dongle and then project via wifi with Windows 10.
