Broadband and wifi
by Laura » Sun Jan 20, 2013 5:10 pm
Hi all,
I would like to put in a telephone and broadband package and wondered if anyone had any recommendations or companies to avoid. There is a telephone line at the house but it was disconnected at the end of December from the previous owner. I need a fast connection because I will need to work and dial in to a uk server. The house is about 5 minutes walk from the top of Quesada. I heard Telefonica were good and fibre optic could be an option.
Thanks
Laura

Try "Skynet Link". We've used them for nearly 4 years and have had excellent service. email [email protected] or call into their shop near the river bridge opposite the ayuntamiento in Rojales . We originally had Telefonica and had some very bad experiences with accounts and general service. Our bank manager labels Telefonica as "the biggest bandidos in españa" and I'd agree

Hi Joolz,
I found the website for Skynet Link that may help to give an idea of prices etc.

We do a package which costs us about €40 a month including IVA for Wireless Telephone, WiFi Broadband (I think it's 8Mb) and 16 hours "free" calls to UK a month....you can use the free call bit for any country in Europe, but as local calls are cheap, we opted for UK calls. We know of people who pay less, but some have frequent, on-going problems which we don't suffer, and we're not robbed by Telefonica (or "BT" who do the same deals as Telefonica and are just as expensive and unhelpful)

Another one to throw into the mix is http://www.broadbandcb.com (Broad Band Costa Blanca). We have their business package 2 phone lines and internet. No problems at all with them and their customer service is great. They might be worth a look.

Hi all,
Still not got broadband sorted but thought I would update re progress.
skynetlink has been great with communication and information by email but their maximum speed of broadband is only 8mb and so I cannot proceed with them because I need a faster speed to dial into a UK server.
telefonica has an online form to set up fibre optic broadband but you need a spanish mobile to make arrangements. Not having a spanish mobile I emailed them and they emailed me the next day basically saying without a spanish mobile I can do nothing!
I have ordered a spanish sim card from ebay, and hopefully this will get round the problem although the phone will be in the uk, it will be a spanish number.
Here are the prices supplied by skynetlink and telefonica
Skynetlink
At the moment, the installation fee is 50€, the 1st month will be free and you will have 5€ discount during the 18 month of your contract.
The prices of the package with IVA included and the 5€ discount are:
Only internet is:
2mb--- 21.37€
4mb--- 23.07€
6mb--- 31.25€
8mb--- 49.33€
Internet and Phone.
2mb + free calls to uk ---- 30.84€ .
4mb + free callas to uk---- 31.40€
6mb + free calls to uk--- 36.50€
8mb + free calls to uk---- 57.4€
The free calls have a limit of 1000 min/month
Telefonica:
ORANGE
Orange Line Connection with new phone number + Unlimited 20MB Adsl Broadband + Calls
15,95€ + IVA per month (direct debit)
49,00€ one-off agent service fee
(excludes one-off 29,00€ Orange line connection charge) MasterCard/ Visa required)
Orange Price excludes monthly land line rental 15,00€ - min. contract 12months -
# go to movifresh.com for more information on inclusive/ cost of calls and to order Orange services online
An agent service fee of 49 euros is payable to Movifresh, the agent for Movistar and Orange services Spain, who will arrange the connection and activation of your phone and broadband services through our English information and online application service.
The whole application, installation and connection process normally takes between 3-14 days, but unfortunately, an installation/ activation date cannot be booked in advance.
I will keep you updated with how I get on.

Hi all,
Got my phone and broadband connected today and seems to be reasonably fast enabling me to dial into my works computer and access their systems. I eventually went with telefonica and is has been (relatively) painless.
First problem is that I could not order a line without a spanish mobile number and I was in the UK. Bought a Spanish sim card easily from Ebay but was wary of buying at first because you had to give passport number and date of birth for most sellers and I did not realise this was a Spanish requirement and concerned it was a con. Bought one where could give NIE instead of passport no. Telefonica have an english website and form but then every thing is in spanish.
Timeline:
Tuesday: completed online form at lunchtime and received confirmation email in english straight away then spanish welcome email couple of hours later
Wednesday: email asking to pay spanish agent by bank transfer and txt saying taking credit card payment
Thursday: spanish email detailing service
Friday: router arrived but we were out so it was redelivered Monday
Monday: Spanish engineer phoned and arranged connection for Tuesday morning
Tuesday: Spanish engineer arrived, set up phoneline, modem and checked internet was working
All set up from start to finish in a week which I reckon was quick by spanish standards!
