Can I use Torresat satellite left from previous owners?

Hi

Just bought an apartment with a satellite dish but no digi box / a Torresat decorder as the previous owners had to return it to them at the end of contract.

1. Will Torresat want the dish back? Or do we just keep it.
2. Will the cable be good to use on another dish (1.4)
3. Can I just purchase a decorder / Sky digi box and plug it straight in, although it's pointing a different way to neighbours satellite dish.

Any other suggestions?

1. Depends on how old the dish is. Sometimes they bother, sometimes not!

2. Will depend on quality of cable and also how old it is. Cable which has been exposed outside over a period of time will crack due to sun, which can effect performance. Only clear definition will be on the level of loss between dish and end of cable where TV is. Can only be determined onsite by technician. What you do not want to do is compromise performance over cable. 1.4 is minimum requirement, so need to tread a little cautiously with short cuts (as well as dish type and LNB).

3. This will not work, different hardware. Torresat is a local microwave system (hence small dish). Original UK TV is satellite, which is a different format to Torresat, so their antennas and their receiver boxes are generally only of use for their system - which is a monthly charge for free to air TV. Their antenna is of no use (to most) sometimes you can reflash their set top boxes, though quite often are locked down with passwords to stop anyone else using boxes - which are the cheapest hardware & long way from a decent set top box.

Had messaged you (your company) a week or so ago with no response with regards to a new 1.4 metre free TV satellite but I never got a reply.
