Can sky Q card be used in Sky +HD box

I have just returned to Spain and I'm having TV problems.. I upgraded to Sky Q at home and the new card doesn't seem to work in my Sky+HD box.. I'm getting "initialising msg" and then "no satellite signal" does anyone know can the card be at fault as I always got an option to pair other card.. Thanks for any help.

"initialising msg" and then "no satellite signal" is not a card issue.
That is the fact your system has a problem, and the box cannot get a signal from the satellites - be it dish alignment, cable issue, lnb issue, or box issue.

A SkyQ card will work in another box, to some extent. Without pairing the card to the box it will NOT get Sky Sports, Sky Movies, Sky HD channels, or record pay channels. It should get the non HD channels, and reocrd the free channels. IF you want to use it for all channels you have to pair the card to the box. However, as it is on a SkyQ contract, this is when pairing may or may not work, and it WILL be flagged at Sky and may cause issues when trying to repair it back.

I'm sure Sky Q has a completely different box. When I switched from Sky to Sky Q a few years ago, the box was replaced and it was completely different.

Thank you v much for your answer.. I have contacted Rapido Repairs to come look at it. So all may be good with a person with the right knowledge.. Otherwise I may get my Q box posted from home.. You're right about the pairing problem.. I went to see could I do it and it only gave me the option to pair my Q box. I would be v happy with limited viewing as I have just the family pack. So I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed as I'm here alone, my walking is limited and the telly is the love of my life. Thanks again. Have a nice day

I had the same issue - when I changed to Sky Q in the U.K., I brought the “old” card that was in the redundant Sky+ box over and expected it to pair to the Sky+ box here, as usual….but it wouldn’t.
But - even so, the Sky+ box now acts like a Freeview/Freesat box and I can get that range programmes, but no recording, and no access to programmes in the Entertainment Package, etc.
I think your box just needs a full reset, plenty of instructions on the internet, or hopefully your tv engineer can do it.
Don’t lose or forget to take back the Sky Q card !!

I won't forget to take my card home.. A friend who is very good at this stuff did a video call this evening and we set up an old box I had here to freeview channel's.. He thinks my sky box is not connected to the Internet and he's to get back to me tomorrow to check that out.. Great to have some channel's but I help pressing back and forward ha! ha! May get use to not having that feature.. Thanks for reply..

Well if you do that , then you will need to change the LNB on your dish from the current "universal" LNB used by most satellite receivers to a wideband LNB that the SkyQ uses. Otherwise the SkyQ box will not even boot up.

Why would you want to pair an old card, with no subscription, to another box? I think it is only "local tv" that requires a functioning paired non subscription sky card. As soon as you get your SkyQ box, and new SkyQ card, your old card is cancelled straight away.

And a full reset is as simply as unplug the box from the power, wait a minute, then reapply the power. But this will not do anything to help pair a SkyQ card to a non SkyQ box, or get a signal back if the issue is with dish alignment, dish size, dish type, LNB, cabling etc

Hi, I have had a Sky Q box in UK with multiroom box for the bedroom.
Can I bring the bedroom box with me to Spain and pair it up with the main box in Uk?

The way SkYQ works is that it uses your local internet network to distribute signals to the "slave" skyq units in other locations.
These "slave" units do not have their own satellite connection, as they get all their data from the main SkyQ box.
