Our friends have a holiday home in France and just said the Astra satellite has moved and they are having difficulties getting the free to air channels - Is this happening in Spain or is it just France?

I said I would ask on here if there are any solutions.

It's all over, Jan. We have friends in Germany near Hannover and they have lost everything. Even with a 2m dish.
The new satellite has a very narrow beam. We seem to be fairly lucky here as we are in that narrow beam but virtually everywhere else in Europe has lost out.

It won't change - those locally may be having a few reception issues with smaller 1 metre dishes - though they should have been told this by installing company as we all knew it was going to change.

However many parts of Spain - Costa del Sol, being a prime example and many other parts of Europe, simply cannot now get any reception.

Alternatives - IPTV, internet TV, this is what 95% of people will use - there are a number of different services, from Free to subscription / similar to Sky and as long as you have internet speed over 2 meg, you should be o.k (though there are also specialist services which go as low as 0.7 meg).

A secondary alternative - which is 'unofficial' is to pick up the reception of another satellite - intelsat 907 which can be received over most of Europe with a 1 metre dish. http://www.lyngsat.com/Intelsat-907.html review frequency 11495 V has the BBC's / ITV's & in HD....however this is encrypted and is generally for a back up / armed forces overseas. There is however a few satellite receivers with a software patch which will open these channels. It works and for those that have no internet, it may be the only option - however if BBC changes BISS keys / encryption then it means the receivers need software update. BBC did it once already, took 48 hours for the (unofficial) software to appear.

Have used / tested all systems, if any advice needed, I can be contacted via the Television Technology advert on this forum.
