Connecting a digital recorder to a satellite system in Spain

Connecting a digital recorder to a satellite system in Spain

Postby Jan » Tue May 13, 2014 6:18 pm

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to connect a Spanish digital recorder to an existing UK satellite TV system in Spain?

I think it must be but I'm just puzzled over the fact that all Digital recorders have freeview in them (as we have in England), obviously Spanish TDT is on the digital recorders in Spain but in England the digi-box (DVR) just takes over the freeview and can then be used to record.

However, the English programmes are on the satellite system in Spain and the TDT will be on the Digi-box. So how does it need to be connected to record the programmes on the satelliteTV system and not the Spanish TDT.

Thanks for any answers in advance.

You need either a HDMI or SCART lead from your satellite box to the recorder and then either a HDMI or SCART lead from the recorder to the TV. If a SCART connection, they should be labelled Sat In and TV out.

To record from satellite, select the correct input on your TV. Ours is labelled TV, HDM1 to HDMI4 and then AV1 and AV2 (for audio visual).

For example, our recorder is connected to AV2. We select that on our TV. Then, on the recorder you have to select the correct input for the satellite. We select input which is TV, (nothing there anymore as that was for analogue TV) D001 (which is the Spanish TDT), D002 (which is the satellite connector) and D003 (for any other device like a tablet. You can then select the satellite channel you want to watch and set record.

The inputs on your TV and recorder may not be the same and some are called L1, L2 etc or AV1, AV2 and so on.

:text-goodpost:

Thank you marcliff - I assume it's the same or a similar set up if using a UK digital recorder, is that correct?

Need to be a little careful as not all recorders are compatible.

Satellite is DVBS or DVBS-2 (S for satellite).
Freeview is terrestrial which is DVBT

Some recorder will record any signal passing through recording device. Others, will not.

Many reasonably modern satellite receivers have a USB port which you can plug in a memory stick or external hard drive to record directly onto, bypassing the need for a separate external recording device.

Hi Paul,
That's interesting but can you clarify how you can record from the TV onto a hard drive, if I'm reading your post correctly?

I have a hard drive in the UK and a digital recorder but I only download from the computer onto the hard drive, didn't think that you could record straight from the TV onto the hard drive.

I'm a little confused too. We are with the re broadcaster Torresat. What would I need to record their programmes? Thanks! Paul.

Hi,
I emailed Torresat last week and asked them this very question. I had thought that maybe they would have their own Digital recorder system to go with their set up or would be a little more descriptive on what actual recorder would work. This is what they said:

Quote : "Yes you can buy a digital recorder as long it has scart connection and you should be able to record.
