CONVERT SCART PORT TO HDMI PORT ON TV

CONVERT SCART PORT TO HDMI PORT ON TV

Postby panchotaff » Sun Oct 14, 2018 5:05 pm

Some help / advice please

Am looking to convert one of the SCART ports on TV to HDMI as at present I only have 1 HDMI port on the TV.

Have Googled this - and the advice appears to be not to use a converter cable but to purchase a SCART to HDMI converter box which is more expensive

Has anybody converted a SCART port and if so what did you use and was it successful?

Thanks

So what you want to do is convert the HDMI output from a device into SCART, to plug into the SCART input on your TV.
This isn't what most SCART/HDMI converters do. They work the other way, to allow older devices that only have SCART output sockets to be used on modern TVs that only have HDMI inputs

Adapters like this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080p-Scart-to-HDMI-Adapter-Video-Audio-HDMI-Converter-Scaler-Smartphone-STB-DVD/182653915108?hash=item2a87058fe4:m:mo6oFXvrvLN0nS-ZVn9k_YA:rk:2:pf:0
very clearly show tyhat SCART socket is the INPUT, not the output.

A better solution is to use an HDMI switch box like this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Hdmi-Port-Switch-Switcher-Splitter-Selector-HUB-Box-Cable-HDTV-1080P-Xbox-PS4/202443515083?hash=item2f2292e4cb:m:m1hpQJy0fVM8Pb9TVHWCUEw:rk:31:pf:0

I use one of these and a programmable remote (that can learn 'macros') to switch to the correct input on the HDMI switch, as well as turning the TV and the correct remote device on.
If you don't want to go down the programmable remote route you can just use the little remote that comes with the switch.

Of course, the real answer is to buy a new TV, as one that has only one SCART socket, yet has multiple HDMI's will be getting a bit long in the tooth. A modern LED TV will give noticeably better picture quality, and have a better life expectancy than your old one.

Pete.

A new TV would be the best option as you are likely to get a better picture. In the UK I had one of the first plasma’s and that only had one HDMI input. That in itself is not an insurmountable problem as someone else suggested a switcher box.
I had a Cinema Amp (receiver) and they work just like a switcher box. They have around half a dozen HDMI inputs (plus others) and normally only one HDMI output - so the TV only ever uses the one HDMI input. On the handset for the cinema amp you just select, for example, Sky box, Game, DVD - whichever equipment you have plugged in - and the cinema amp then sends that image and sound out to the TV.

Many thanks for your replies.
I agree that a new TV is the best option but that's for next year. I am looking for a 6 month solution.
The problem has arisen as I have just had Fibre installed and a new set box. The HDMI cable from the box to the TV has to be direct - it can not go through a splitter box.

I think I will have a look in Media mart to see if they have have one of these boxes.

Thanks again

A HDMI sswich box is not the same as a splitter which just shares the signal between to cables , a HDMI switch has two sets of outputs sothe signal will be transmitted as a single line
I have a brand new HDMI switch for sale if you want to try it pm me

Above - sounds like a splitter? Not quite the same thing.

This ? HDMI Input to Scart output
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Converter-Scal ... cart&psc=1

Though i'd be straight onto the landord and say you need to upgrade your TV as NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING OF ANY CONNECTED TV EQUIPMENT USES SCART NOW. I picked up a nearly new 32 inch TV for €100 so you don't need to spend a fortune.

Paul
Thanks - Yes this looks like the piece of kit I was thinking of.

I will have a serious word with myself ( as the Landlord :P :P ) to upgrade the TV which is on my list for next year.

Thanks everybody for helpful comments

Yea you skinflint landlord, stump up €100 for a new TV

Joking aside, you will bump up against compatibility issues, if not this time around at some point. If looking to save costs, always people going back and forth and TV's come up for sale on local forums and facebook pages, worth keeping an eye on, as mentioned I picked up a new 32 inch TV which came for free with a larger TV someone bought & then sold it to me for €100 and it has a couple of HDMI ports ;-)
