Freesat off air?

Freesat off air?

Postby Peter48 » Thu Apr 28, 2022 5:23 pm

I watch UKTV vía a Humax freesat box connected to a 1.9 metre satellite dish. This has worked fine for the 4 years I have been here (and also for the previous British owner of my house), but today there is no signal.
Is anyone else with a similar setup experiencing the same problem?

No, I have the same setup and no problem.
Obviously, in this weather, some channel pixelate out but normally just the channels with a weak signal and just about 3 or 4 but all the others are fine.

Try resetting your box and scanning the channels again. Also check your cable coming from the dish as they can sometimes move but there is no problem at all with Freesat.

Thanks for confirmation that Freesat is working. I have no signal at all so I suspect that the LNB has failed. Time to call an engineer.

Just a suggestion but try checking there is not a wasp or moth inside the LNB.

Also check the cable. Cable laid in the sun will eventually crack, and when it rains will let in water...which is not good for the signals, LNB or receiver.

I watch UKTV regularly on FREESAT, that is until 2/3 weeks ago. Thought it was my LNB, checked it all OK. Called out Satélite engineer who checked the system, strong signal from 2 metre dish and checked FREESAT box and program, couldn’t get the UKTV channels, particularly Channel YESTERDAY. Apparently UKTV channels have gone over to the SKY protocol. Will now have to watch on IPTV box.

Funny! I have all the Freesat channels on my TV through a 1.9m dish and Humax box.
Nothing has changed at all. Yesterday channel (and Dave, Drama and W) have always been very weak and are the first to drop out with poor weather or sun type activity.

Apart from that, nothing has changed at all. No idea what SKY protocol is but I get all the channels and even the weak channels are coming albeit pixelating a bit.Haven't done anything to mine and I also get all the channels on the direct to TV satellite tuner as well.

Mine is fine. Try unplugging the Humax box for a couple of minutes

The UKTV Group of channels, (the SD verisons of Dave, Drama, Yesterday, Eden, W, Gold, Alibi), are on a very weak signal, and required very very accurate alignment and LNB positioning to get them...and have been for a few years now..

SD versions of Dave Drama Yesterday and W are all free to air (ie no card required) and nothing to do with Sky, or any "Sky protocols". HD vversions are still part of the Sky pay package.
