I use a couple of Humax HDR-1000s in Villamartin and they work perfectly.
They just need to be connected to a suitably sized dish with a decent LNB.

Sounds more like a faulty box.

While there will naturally be differences between them they should not be great enough to mean that one works and another doesn't, probably comes back to my earlier question about why you were messing with the box in the first place.

bit surprised about Humax being no good around here. I had 1 for 2 years in Almeria - 200km south of here. No probs with a 1.9 dish. I am using same one here near golf course at Quesada - still no probs - 1.4 dish.

Rereading your post if that's what your man told you then it sounds like you may have splashed out for a new box when all you really needed was the tweak to the dish.

Wanna know for sure, easy - reconnect your Humax and see if it's still 'unsuitable' or not.

For reference - Humax Freesat boxes do work in Spain.

The only thing is they need to see a 50% epg signal to boot on a specific frequency - usually this is ok, however on the odd occasion it is not - for example twice i've seen on a community satellite install a Humax not function, as somewhere in the amplification on a larger system the epg frequency may be clipped an not get through, which in turn could trip up the box - generally speaking though, they are ok more likely so on individual systems - as long as the epg signal is available in your location / system - as if not, box won't boot up properly.
