Hi fellow free sat users
Does anyone have any simple ideas for recording on one channel and watching a different one.
My main plan was to record on SD and watch on HD or vice versa. Recently that has become more difficult. Any other Ideas?

We used to do this before the days of streaming. Although we still use Freesat we no longer record. However, to do it we needed a second coaxial cable from the dish so that the recorder can pick up one channel whilst you watch another i.e. two cables go into the Freesat box. In fact we have three because another goes to a bedroom for the TV in there. We have a quad LNB on the dish so it cope with four different TVs / recorders if required. Hope that helps, but I'm not especially technical.

I currently have a dual LNB which is what you need for limitless recording and watching two different channels. But prior to this I shared a dish with two neighbours and only had one sat input cable.

Doing some research I found a way to watch and record at the same time albeit in a limited way. On the back of my humax box there are sat1 and sat2 aerial input connections. There is also a sat1 output connection. I bought a short sat aerial cable and connected the sat1 output with the Sat2 input. I had this set up for a number of years and it worked great. What you will find is that you will get to know what combination of channels you can watch and record at the same time eg you might not be able to watch itv3 with bbc recording, but might be able to by switching from say bbc south to bbc West Midlands instead. Hope this helps. Dave

With a Freesat Humax HDR 1100 (which have not been made for 3 years now), or a Freesat "4k" recording box, with two cable feeds from your dish, will allow you to watch one channel and record another at the same time.

Both will also allow you to do the same with just one cable, but you will only be able to do this for channels on the same frequency / polarisation group, since a single cable can only handle one of these at a time.
So, for example, with one cable you may be able to watch Channel 4 and record Film 4 (same frequency), but not watch Channel 4 and record More 4 (as they are on different frequencies).

That's what I am finding satandpcguy.

Is there anywhere that says which frequency different program operate on? I can draw up a list of compatible channels.

Thanks.
