You ideally purchase an unlocked unit, so accepts any sim. A few of the local computer shops do sell them. Then when you arrive in Spain, you buy a local sim for data only, then connect multiple devices, via wi fi to the mobile hotspot.

Just one example
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MiFi-2372-Unl ... 5d4faf7cae

Prices will vary depending on country, provider and data amount / package on offer.

With this type of mobile data package, data is quite restrictive, so if using for emails, bit of web browsing then fine. Not for watching TV or streaming video as would be very expensive - as is not unlimited and this uses a lot of data.

I did recently get given one of these to use whilst on the Norfolk broads (and on a boat) and found it to be useless, could not make it work at all. Having said that might put it down to location as we were all struggling to get any data connection on the mobile phones, so would expect same problems with a mobile data device.

You can use the portable 'Mi Fi' or similar units anywhere. Difference is if you buy a tablet with the option of a sim, you are locked to only using that tablet & would need to be careful that all local sims are compatible / available for the tablet of choice.

Think the unit I used was a Huwai, though if you search on the terms below on Amazon, you will probably find some useful user reviews.

With a 'portable wi fi hotspot' it allows any internet devices to be connected, phones, tablets, more than one person at the same time etc, so from that respect is more flexible, though of course it is one extra piece of equipment you need to carry (though they are pretty small, fit in your pocket).

Either way will work, just depends on what you want to do with it & budget.

Hi..if you go to Media Market in La Zenia, buy a TP Link portable wifi unit. The girls behind the counter will set it up for you (they all speak English). there are 2 units for sale..1 is 1gigabyte and 1 is 3 gigabyte..within 2 hours it is working, and you can use it anywhere. Hope this helps folks!
