Help with choosing a WiFi provider please?
Help with choosing a WiFi provider please?
by Ergun » Sun Apr 03, 2016 2:40 pm
New to this web site so not sure where to start my post!! But we are thinking of providing wifi for guests using our house. looking for best option and best price. my housekeeper uses Ole and said they charge 20€ a month but when I emailed them I was quoted 30€ a month.
Currently using Torrestat for TV/freeview at 23€ a month, but does any one know of a better solution for us whereby we get TV/ wifi for a combined cheaper price/
We are coming out to Spain in a couple of weeks so we would appreciate any ideas so we could stsrt organusing it.
Many thanks

Skynetlink in Rojales for a 5mb switch on/switch off wireless internet service at 23.07€ per month inc IVA with an 18 month contract. Excellent service

Thanks Jan.
Probably the most cost effective solution is to separate out the TV & the Internet. Unlike most of the UK, the internet here is a little 'variable' speed wise - whoever you use, we start off with slower internet.
The problem is, if you want a cheap 'stop-start' type internet - it will be o.k for general web browsing, though not always stable enough for good TV.
A satellite dish is will give you the best picture / audio and 200+ free channels and is a 'one off' payment - long term considerably better for free to air than anything else. Also if you have a problem with your internet or it wobbles / goes off, won't affect the TV. Word of caution - it is hard to get the same level of service / stability with the microwave services for TV, unless you have a good / fast connection, have to tread a little carefully.
Using a combined service usually gets you an increased cost and quite often not the most stable systems - hence suggestion of using what works best for the TV (satellite) and is also cheapest long term, as no subscriptions (unless wanting Sky) & that way you are free to choose best internet for cost / your purposes.

Good advice from paul. Our first two months in spain were spent in a friends holiday flat in La Mata.
They had no dish so we were stuck with Spanish tv and thats a treat not to be missed
We bought a place complete with a dish and now enjoy uk tv, free, no monthly charge
On/off internet is a great idea when you are renting but as full time, unlimited download internet can be had for around $360 a year then you dont have the fuss of arranging the on/off process evry time you rent it out

Thank you everyone for your advice. It sounds like we should stick with separate TV package anyway..... How much is the satellite dish or 'one off payment'? We've been paying monthly rental for over 11years so I wish I had sorted this out before now!!!
Also where would we find Skynetlink in Rojales? And what is the set up price please?
Sorry for all the questions but trying to organise things before we come out in a couple of weeks.

Look on the Skynetlink web site, explains all. They are situated in the centre of Rojales close to El Paseo cafe and the King Charles bridge. Their phone number is 00 34 966 190 904.
Good luck with it

The skynet people are very helpful and do speak english
There are many satellite dish providers and the one off charge would be the supply and install of dish, cable and decoder (unless tv has built in decoder)
Thats the one off cost as there are no ongoing fees to watch satellite tv

I use Movistar/Telefonica & can't complain.
My package includes landline with free calls over Spain, but not TV.
Rates have gone down and speed gone up & if we have a problem, they speak English too.
Recently the speed dropped so I contacted them.
They did something their end which made it a bit better & said they'd send an engineer in the morning.
He phoned at 9pm to say he'd be with us at 9.30 which he was.
Changed our connections, worked on local box, went down road to work on another box & all hunky dory & speed now 8Meg.

Thank you everyone. I called Skynetlink yesterday and organised wifi to be set up. Hopefully they can fit us in while we are out there in a couple of weeks.
Now I just have to think about a one off cost for satellite dish... Should have done it years ago as we have paid a fortune over 11 or so years
Anyone recommend the best service/best price please?
