How to record from Magbox?

How to record from Magbox?

Postby Wingnut » Mon Dec 13, 2021 6:13 pm

I have a Magbox and the IPTV provider has a music club on there.
I notice that there seem to be USB ports front and back. Is it possible to record music from the box in order to transfer it to an MP3 player? And would I have to load it onto my PC and from there to the MP3 player?
I've no idea whether this is possible, so step by step advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can record music on memory stick and play it via your Mag box

Depends on your IPTV provider, try putting a memory stick in the port and see if you can record. You can’t watch or listen to anything else whilst you are recording.

The usb on the back of a Magbox may only be for service work by technicians so use the one on the front or you may finish up with a doorstop

Probably not, though there are different versions of MAG boxes.

Simply pressing record on the remote will not work

When in the music club, if it is possible, you will see an option to download at the bottom of the screen where the music file is - such as red button to download etc. If you don´t see that, then the option is not there and is simply not available.

Some devices will allow you to download, but some will restrict due to copyright type issues.

Personally, I give Spotify 9.99 a month for continual access to 70 million music tracks - works on my phone, tablet, pc and car and can stream to the usual Bluetooth speaker anywhere. The Best tenner a month I spend.

For anyone ever considering replacing their MAG with a newer model, we recommend avoiding buying another Mag as the newer Mag boxes are badly featured (features unchanged in 6 years other than 4K play back) - awfully buggy and simply trounced by newer equipment from other manufacturer which offer more performance, flexibility and features.

Is that some sort of joke?

The IPTV we're talking about here is illegal - period!

On the subject of MAG boxes I have a MAG322 which works perfectly and is not buggy in any way which is evident to me whatsoever.

Other than for those who profit from it newer is not necessarily better!

BTW it downloads to either USB port.

Recording is to space on the providers server but with limits on capacity, and because download is so simple, for me that's a facility which works but one I have no real use for.

1. Some companies have the right to transmit certain content to stream but not to allow end user to hold (as in record), so this facility is not offered as an option and removed from the Mag software - I am not quoting a specific service or company in terms of what is legal and what is not, just that this I have seen from different providers.

2. ON THE SUBJECT OF MAG boxes - I was not referring to your OLD MAG 322, which is fine for an older model - but does not play back 4K, does not remember where you are on your videoclub (like Netflix), so a pain if watching multiple series or, does not allow a VPN or other software. List goes on. The problem is the the newer Mags 4 & 5 series which are poorly resolved, they are buggy and do not have any useful new features over the Mag 322 other than they can play 4k - more memory etc, but use wise the same, but full of bugs and expensive for what they offer. That is the opinion of someone who´s job it is to test TV hardware.

Simply put, if you are happy without 4k and the other features then existing box 322 is fine - the point was more IF you need to replace or want to upgrade, the advice was to NOT buy the newer Mags as they are not as good as they were 5 years ago - things have changed more than you think - and only when you see different equipment, you can see how many changes there are.

You may also find that at some point in time the possibility of getting an onscreen message ´contact your service provider´as infomir owner of Mag forces out updates (even if they are switched off in the box), to make older boxes incompatible with their middleware, in order to push out their new boxes . This is nothing to so with any service provider, but underhand tactics to push new equipment by informir - unnaceptable.

Hi Paul,
I see you recommend Spotify, and we already subscribe to that.
But how would I convert the Spotify format into MP3?
Is it a simple process to suit a techno idiot?
