im looking at Humax boxes. Do they work in Spain?
Do they need to connect to a sat dish or internet?
How many channels are available?
Any additional relevant info?
Help gratefully received

For the best performance of the Humax Freesat Box it requires two satellite feeds from the dish via a twin LNB (a single coax via a splitter won’t do). The twin feed allows recording of one channel whilst watching another.
The Freesat website will give you a full list of channels available.
If you’ve a VPN router (we use the LibertySheild VPN router (£19.99 from Amazon plus £6.99 a month) placed between your ISP’s router and the Humax Freesat, you can access BBC iPlayer, ITV player etc. It also gives access to NETFLIX if you’ve an account.

Just be a little bit cautious, as Humax make both satellite (freeSAT) and digital terrestrial (freeVIEW) boxes. Only the satellite boxes will give UK channels in Spain.
The model numbers of the Humax boxes are also somewhat confusing, do make sure you buy the right thing.
You should get all of the FreeSat channels in Spain with a suitably large dish and decent LNB, but you may find that odd channels aren’t available, especially if you have something in the area that’s causing interference to some of the channels (we have a water pumping station that causes us some local issues).
If you go for one of the FreeSat boxes with twin tuners and a built-in HDD then you can pause live TV and record one channel whilst watching another - provided you have twin feeds from your LNB.
An old Sky box will give you the same channels (but no ability to pause/record without a subscription), but you can’t hide the subscription only channels in the EPG, so can be frustrating to use.
Cheap Chinese satellite boxes will give the same range of channels, and usually the ability to record to a USB HDD, but the user interface of these boxes are usually appalling.
I think the Humax FreeSat boxes are a good solution, with a good EPG and user interface, plus pause/record features.
When you set the box up initially, you’ll be asked for your UK postcode. This is just used to give the correct regional channels for your location, so just pop-in any old postcode for the area where you want to see “local” news etc.
Pete.

Ron have sent you a PM with some alternative ideas, as all UK terestial channells except 5 can now be viewed through catch up apps which can be made to work in Spain without using a VPN. Assuming you have internet.

Yes they do with the freeview channels - unless you have two satellite feeds you can only record the same channel you are tuned to though . . .
