Internet research - providers and costs?

Quite easy to provide low speed Internet here but in my experience it is the backup service that lets all the providers down that I have used over the years. Poor response times in the event of breakdown and poor communications on problems.

Poor communication on enquiries too, I emailed DVBLab to try and sort out obtaining freesat and internet whilst I was over. I gave up in the end and went elsewhere as two weeks had passed without a reply, had freesat installed with dish the lot but they couldn't provide internet as couldn't see the transmitter from our rooftop. Since then Lars (very nice guy) from DVBLab contacted me but they won't provide internet anymore unless you take a tv package deal with them too, sods law!

Don't know which direction to go now as I'm not even sure there is fibre optics run on Lo Crispin, I can only imagine how long it would take to install as I believe Telefonica would need to be involved too?

Just wanted to say a big thank you for all - saved me a ton of research. Nothing better than getting the opinions of real users, rather than just pulling information off the ISP's websites. :text-thankyouyellow:

I have yet to find any internet provider that will guarantee a speed, it is always UP to.

We have used Skynetlink/Telfy since moving to Spain. The initial speed was 3, then 5 and now is 10, if you are lucky enough to live in an area that has fibre optic then 40mbs is obtainable. If you go to their website it will highlight areas with fibre optic.
At this moment we are paying 36 + IVA for a contract that has a mobile with 100 mins talk time no SMS's, 500mb data and 10mbs download. Very, very good service, although they are the same as most replying to emails, but their shop is not far away in Rojales.

Impossible to answer as even in Quesada - some can, some can't depends on exact location and whether specific provider can get signal there.

I have yet to find any internet provider that will guarantee a speed, it is always UP to.
That is the case world over  It's called covering yourself....I think they should offer a guaranteed MINIMUM, which would reflect the truth a little better.

Jan, I have just looked on DVBLab web site and they are now only offering internet with a TV package.
Which is a shame as I was looking favourably to them for internet provider, as this would suit my requirements.

Jan wrote:As a holiday home owner who is in Spain infrequently DVBlab suits us at €19 per month, as and when we need it, and the service is good and friendly with no fuss and in the 2+ years we have used them there has been no problems at all. (5mb quoted speed but probably averages 3mb)

If paid by credit card on the day of switch on, the start date is that day and ends one month later (If paid by direct debit it's per calendar month on the switch on service). We chose to pay by credit card when we need it, which was a good factor in our decision to use them. For the information of this survey, I believe that Holiday home owners and even some residents may not usually want or need the high specification set ups that we get in the UK, as long as the service is reliable for general Internet/WiFi usage.

If the Internet company doing this survey wants to offer a competitive service, they wouldn't go far wrong in by including a basic decent set-up as a switch-on switch-off service for those who need it, like DVBlab have, alongside higher spec services for residents (with choices of speed and price like BT do in the UK). We have the top speed infinity in the UK and use it for everything including TV but in Spain we just need a decent basic WiFi set up, which we have.

Hope this helps.
