Internet research - providers and costs?
Internet research - providers and costs?
by Paul - TV Techie » Fri Aug 12, 2016 11:09 am
I've been tasked by a certain internet company to review local competition, they are looking to see what everyone else is doing & review their services to offer something competitive.
If a few forum members would be so kind as to tell me who they use for their internet & what is the quoted speed & the monthly price you pay for this - would be most helpful.
Thanking you in advance.

Everyone quotes speeds, surely ping speed is also important, especially for watching IPTV?

Quoted speed was what was asked for! Are you giving us your provider review?

ping is speed, just not transfer speed.
The ping is the reaction speed of your connection–how fast you get a response after you've sent out a request.
without a ping comparison it will not be an accurate review.

Hi Paul we are with DVB lab for WIFI at 19,50€ pm and usually the speed is just over 3mb (3.13) at the moment. Very happy with their friendly, helpful staff.

I am with nolimit getting up to 10MB. Not bad but their back office system is rubbish, cut us off 4 times over the past year because they have the incorrect renewal date on their system. They always say sorry but dont correct it.

As a holiday home owner who is in Spain infrequently DVBlab suits us at €19 per month, as and when we need it, and the service is good and friendly with no fuss and in the 2+ years we have used them there has been no problems at all. (5mb quoted speed but probably averages 3mb)
If paid by credit card on the day of switch on, the start date is that day and ends one month later (If paid by direct debit it's per calendar month on the switch on service). We chose to pay by credit card when we need it, which was a good factor in our decision to use them. For the information of this survey, I believe that Holiday home owners and even some residents may not usually want or need the high specification set ups that we get in the UK, as long as the service is reliable for general Internet/WiFi usage.
If the Internet company doing this survey wants to offer a competitive service, they wouldn't go far wrong in by including a basic decent set-up as a switch-on switch-off service for those who need it, like DVBlab have, alongside higher spec services for residents (with choices of speed and price like BT do in the UK). We have the top speed infinity in the UK and use it for everything including TV but in Spain we just need a decent basic WiFi set up, which we have.
Hope this helps.
