Internet speed issue with Movistar?

Internet speed issue with Movistar?

Postby Martin the artist » Wed Feb 17, 2016 10:14 am

We've had Telefonica/movistar ADSL since we moved in 9 years ago & never had any problems.
It was around 3Mb when we first signed up, but has gradually increased to nearer 8.
BUT over the last week or so we have been having problems watching streaming videos, so I did a check and have been shocked to find it has slowed to below 1!?
SO does anyone else here use Movistar & if so is your speed down too, or is it just mine?

Just tried a speed test on mine, 13.45 so no change. You may have a virus? Try a scan with Malewarebytes, that will prove if it's a virus or your telephone line.

Do not use Malwarebytes at this time as it has a serious security breach and a virus would not interfere with ADSL speed ring Movistar

Depends on the time of day. If lots of people are on the system then the speeds will drop. Even in UK my 38 Mbs from virgin would drop to lower than 10 at certain times of the day (Yes, I know, we'd kill for 10 Mbs over here). Same with my DVBLab connection. Early in the morning 6 to 7 Mbs (contracted for 3) but can drop to 1 during the early evening.
However, check with them. A simple dodgy wire or connection or (especially here in Quesada with so many providers) interference from other companies using similar frequencies or due to their proximity.
I think TV Tech has posted many times that so many companies provide systems to expats in the Rojales/Quesada/Benijofar area that they all interfere with each other and there are quite a few "dead" spots.

Thanks for the replies....
Doesn't look like anyone else has had problems, so will phone them Fred.
I know its not a virus as it affects my other computer and iPad too.
Just checked my billig and it looks like we should now be receiving 6Mb & haven't had the problem before, so will let their boffins sort me out hopefully.

You are right in saying that it can't be a virus if your other machines suffer the same problem however, I would love to know where freddo has heard that Malwarebytes has a serious security breach. I have asked my friends in the computer buisness and trolled the internet and can't find anything that suggests such a thing. I have used Malwarebytes for years and always found it efficient at handling viruses and the program is the first I turn to if I feel my computer may have picked up a virus problem. Oh well, each to his own!

Update.... Called 1004 and spoke with knowledgeable woman in English who made me plug in direct rather than wifi, then switch off wifi and later restart it whilst they performed tests. Then got me to check speed which was still poor. Are supposed to be working on it at mo and if engineer needs to visit he will phone and make appointment within next 24 hours.

I know when I had a problem with my phone and needed their engineer to visit, he phoned and was here within half hour, so expect it'll be good soon(ish).
