It is a new type of 4g router (also does 3g and every other variation), combined with an unlimited data sim. This presently does not exist elsewhere as all this type of mobile data service is capped, much like your mobile phone data contract - usually 500mb - 2gb per month.

As long as you have a good data service in your location (not the same as voice) then we have a game in play. Torrevieja had 4g masts put up not so long ago. Hardware is not cheap & monthly costs will be more than the rebroadcast services, but less than satellite internet which speed wise could be its closest competitor. Satellite internet has just had its monthly fees reduced from €99 per month to €75 for 20mb download - and that is capped.

Where it may be of interest is the potential to share and divide up the costs, with these type of speeds you can share easier between neighbours, just a case of pairing the right equipment together, so have a number of antennas on the way to see what works best.

If not in a 4g area, which theoretically can give up to 50 mb download (touch optimistic I think), 3g areas will still pull potentially up to 12, so still not too shabby.

Also noticed, please bear in mind very early days test wise - that speeds in the evening, a usual problem time where everything slows right down seems to make little difference.

Technicians out testing today La Mata, Playa Flamenca, Delores, La Marina.

First test reports in: La Mata apartment block 3rd floor.

By balcony, practically outside (external antenna may be required) 40 Mbps download - 17.79 up!
In lounge (further inside property) Download 29.38 Mbps, with an upload of 16.23
Deepest possible in flat - worst location, download 3.48 Mbps upload 14.31

Should do there is 4G locally. For full info pls email [email protected] - all info will also be in the website in the next few days. If nearby we can also run test in your location.

We will also be launching other internet services shortly including internet rebroadcasting & landline - partnering with Telitec for these. The fast 4G service is with Telefonica / Movistar and is the flagship internet product.

Just been looking at your website Paul. 4G definitely looks to be the way forward. As and when it drops to Euro 40 per month with unlimited data I will definitely get it, currently paying Euro 45 with Movistar as we have to pay for land line rental. I assume that with 4G I can scrap the land line rental and use the 4G connection as a phone as well?

Agreed - prices do need to fall. As with all new / flagship products, expect to pay the most!

I personally believe that if a price point could be reached at €40 per month, this product / service would wipe the floor with the wireless service providers. On a bad day we see 15Mbps.

We have some more negotiations on this service in the new year, I believe it won't be too long before we see €50- €55 per month, but at €40 this product may well conflict with Telefonicas other products - landline, so they are likely to put a distinction between the two - in which case it may well stay a little more expensive than the landlines?

Also of interest in the TDT / 4G switchover - due 1st January, but now officially (TDT wise) delayed up until 31st March - we will see an 'opening up' of other 4G frequencies, which (we hope) will improve the overall 3G / 4G service and reception.

You don't need the line rental with the 4G router, phone calls would be needed to be made by Skype / Voip.

When you are negotiating you might want to point out that Orange in Spain already offer a 4G Home solution at Euro 29.95 including IVA but usage capped to 30GB. An extra Euro 10 for unlimited data may well come at some stage.

Also do you offer any VOIP systems that would allow me to have a standard 966 land line number for receiving calls?
