Is this legal? Telecable box

Is this legal? Telecable box

Postby sallyjane113 » Thu Sep 22, 2022 5:29 pm

I wonder if anyone can help me. We have a holiday home in Quesada and when we came out in September Telecable have attached a box to our front wall. We do not have wi fi and have not given anyone permission. I believe it is our neighbour who has the WiFi but they haven't attached it to his front wall. The house next door is owned by a builder who is selling it. Thanks for anyone's help with this.

If it's a private company that has done this, they should have asked your permission. Perhaps drop them an email and see what their response is.

Or - assuming it is your front wall and not part-owned by community *different rules - then you can just remove it. But probably best to speak with the company responsible firstly, so you can understand exactly what they've done.

If they have been a little cheeky and installed on a wall they don't own without permission, then you should be advised. notified or compensated accordingly. Any back chat or unsatisfactory response and you advise them it will be removed - which if your wall, should be your legal right.

Thanks for your help. It's a Telecable box. Am I right in thinking we are responsible for the pavement outside aswell if a private plot as they have put a concrete slab on it aswell.

It is probably a multi connection point, which will be used to connect multiple clients to the main fibre cable coming along the road.

If so, they will be entitled to put it there. All the companies supplying fibre have put these boxes around Quesada. Our fibre comes from such a box outside a neighbours property.

When you say your front wall is this your boundary wall with the highway? or the front of your house?

It's possible that, like the UK, utility companies are allowed to place connection boxes in the highway and on the pavement.

As I said above, it will be a connection box which will be used for any other nearby neighbours as well if they sign up. And of course yourselves. It is perfectly legal.

Thanks David. I queried it because the neighbour on the other side has a box on their wall so I presumed it was an individual thing. Thankyou

So who is responsible for the upkeep of your boundary wall, is it the council, or Telecable, or even a community, I think the answer might be "you" in which case how can it be legal for anyone else to use and abuse it.

If it were attached to any part of my property, I would just cut the cables and remove it, then wait and see who comes crying.
