Keeping UK Mobile number

Hi all,

Stockpiling my info for my move next year and wanted to find out what is the best, cost-effective way of retaining your UK mobile phone number in Spain?

I had this hare-brained idea of getting a pay as you go sim and just using and receiving calls via wifi? Also having a dedicated Spanish mobile? Or is it easy to just take a Spanish mobile contracted and PAC code my UK number to it?

Before moving from the UK permanently, I changed my address on my mobile phone account to my daughter's address in the UK, and bought a sim only account. Certain UK Bank accounts require a UK phone number, otherwise there is a chance they may close you down.
Once in Spain, I bought a contract with a Spanish phone number. £10 per month for my UK phone, €12 per month for my Spanish number. My mobile phone is also duel sim, so both can be used as and when required. I get verification text messages on my UK sim (gov UK sign-ins & other UK accounts etc) and all rest are then via my Spanish sim.

Buy a dual sim mobile and use a UK and Spanish Sim, you can then use both on one phone. I don't think you can port your UK number to a Spainish Sim.

We use Lebara for UK sim and Lobster for Spanish sim. The Lobster is stop/start and the Lebara is £6.99 per month with free calls to Spain.

Have a look at getting a 1p mobile sim card I've been using one for a couple of year now in Spain.

I've never heard of a 1p sim. What is it and how does it work?

I ended up doing the following.

Phone with 2 sims
Spanish sim / Spanish phones/tariffs (Yoigo for me)
UK Giff Gaff sim- you can keep the old UK number and top up only when you need it. Minimum 10-pound top-up.

Most people in the UK - friends and family, end up calling on WhatsApp as cheaper for everyone. So only find I need the UK sim if back in the UK just in case - I put on 10 pounds for a top-up and usually all i'd need for a week,
