I offer support for an established company with around 3000 clients for different TV services. In 10 years of working in this type of role, I have never seen a piece of equipment (Kodi / XBMC), which needs as much support - whether you are IT savvy or not. For those not technically minded, avoid. For those who want simple, avoid. For those that want guaranteed stable sports - avoid. Basic, TV SD or slightly lower than (filmon) ok, films / series generally o.k. Sports are not always stable and this type of service cannot be guaranteed in any way shape or form, as you are not paying anyone to host anything, you are relying on what is free. Content disappears, apps stop working - always a little tweaking / fiddling.

Also found many local adverts are not companies - illegal single workers, trying to make a quick buck - here today gone.....etc. Offer poor hardware, not that well set up and as for aftersales....avoid anyone with a mobile phone number only or hotmail etc address as most of these are not legal or registered (or experienced enough).

If anyone thinks that the cheapest unhosted system, with multiple software applications is going to be anything like a satellite or subscription based IPTV service, it is not - it best to tread carefully as this sector is riddled with misleading advertising. Cheap for a reason.

Not saying these systems are without merit - but a lot of 'rose tinted views on this' - I have experience in answering the phones & emails with a few hundred people with this hardware & it is simply really not suited for all and anyone advising for sports or live events, I have seen too much instability to recommend for this purpose & although we also sell / set up this type of hardware - quite often a different solution is recommended.

Totally agree Paul, the trouble is there's always someone on the sidelines enticing the gullible, its false economy to suggest otherwise sad fact is after the lesson is learned ,they then seek out the expertise of a reputable established company.
This is only my opinion.

I posted this on another thread, but I think it's worth posting on this one as well. You don't need an Android Kodi box to use Kodi. If you've got a computer, which you probably have if you're posting on here, then you can install Kodi for Windows. It's got the same content as an Android box and it's free. Not for technophobes, but neither is an Android Kodi box. If you've got an HDMI out connection on your computer, you can link it to your telly. Here's a link. Have a play.

This is the most honest, accurate reply on this subject. I have a Kodi box & all the problems Paul has said - I get, I don't even bother with it now - I stick to the normal way of doing things.

I agree with Paul I have an Android box from Netbox as I said in a previous post it's generally ok but fiddly to download new apps etc. Sometime the apps repo doesn't download etc. I've spent ages trying to download music apps like Musicbox and Spotify to build my own playlists but with no joy after hours trying any ideas guys?

Quite simply...the Kodi crowd and Paul will never see eye to eye!

I've used Kodi, and still do for things like films, but if I want to watch something like Premiership football on a Saturday afternoon, I've found it's an utterly pointless waste of my time, unless I'm happy watching 30 seconds of football, followed by 30 seconds of buffering, followed by 30 seconds of the football in double-speed while the picture catches up! A few weeks ago I tried watching a midweek match on Zee TV. Might as well have been watching a 60s transmission of the match being transmitted from the moon. The quality and pixellation was AWFUL.

I'd love to see evidence of non-buffering Kodi apps for things like top live sport, but I doubt I ever will.

I'll stick to subscription services!

Each to their own though!

As from last Tuesday the sale of preloaded iptv boxes has been made illegal within the eu by the eu court in Luxembourg
This can be checked as most newspapers seem to have covered the news and it would be interesting to hear the reaction from the many iptv box sellers here

Helen I have my own box which I play with & sounds like yours just needs resetting & updating so I would try that first before buying a new one. There are loads around as Paul rightly says & you get what you pay for. I am not a seller or anything but if I can help at all happy to help let me know.
