Problem with satellite signal

Problem with satellite signal

Postby GrahamR » Thu Apr 12, 2018 9:19 pm

Hi, I hope someone can help me.
We bought a house in Quesada a few years ago. The previous owners had an old satellite box and an installer checked it for us and found it still worked OK. He put up a 1.4 dish and it has given us the usual free UK channels. About 3 years ago, we lost the signal due to high winds and the installer came back and made the necessary adjustments to the dish.
Unfortunately, the installer has retired and having come back to Spain for the first time in 6 months we seem to have lost the signal.
I don't know if there is a problem getting a signal out here now, or the satellite box is kaput, or the dish has moved in the winds.
Our place here is basically a holiday home and therefore I do not want a subscription package. Ideally, I would be grateful to know whether there is a problem nowadays with the signal in the area, or a satellite guy who could come and check the system out.
Any advice appreciated. Many thanks!

There were some very high winds a couple of weeks ago and our dish came a bit loose so we lost some of the weaker channels (it happens).
Television Technology advertises on here and they are very good. They will re-align and check your satellite dish for you.
Excellent service.

You may have a spider or other insects settled in your dish at the back of the receiver. Spray insect stuff. If that does not work retune it in to see if it works. You can do that yourself easily.

Not all LNB's are the same offset models do not have an open feedhorn for a spider to crawl in the first place, many 1.4's locally are offsets. Also there are some very fine pins in a prime focus LNB (different type), if you go poking around in it, you have a reasonable chance of breaking said pins - so need to be very careful (or use compressed air or if infested strip the LNB down and rebuild).

As for tuning - it's easy to tune badly, but hitting the sweet spot of 3 satellites takes a little practice and a decent meter/spectrum analyser of commercial quality & easy REALLY? Takes a fair bit of practise/experience to do well - UK satellite signal is weak in Spain.

Then if it's not the above, the cable will need checking top to bottom.

Thanks Paul. I have sent a message on your company FB page.
Problem is, we have a townhouse and the dish is on the roof and I don’t like heights and I can’t convince my wife the climb up there...

Thank you ‘Walnut’ and to all! I really appreciate it! I am arranging for Paul or one of his colleagues to visit.
I have to say how much I appreciate this site. I don’t know anything like it in the UK where you can access help on a local basis and get problems solved so quickly. So thanks to all!
