PVR's Personal Video Recorders

PVR's Personal Video Recorders

Postby Paul Stotesbury » Mon Apr 07, 2014 1:09 pm

Hi.Wonder if anyone can help. In the UK I have a Humax digital hard disc recorder to record tv programmes. Sky do a hard disc recorder as do several other companies and easy to buy from Currys etc. Use them to record, rewind, record two programmes at the same time etc. Where can you buy similar in Spain? Been to all the obvious places without success. Are they not available in Spain or do I have to go to a specialist retailer? Many thanks.

You can get a Humax recorder/receiver off most of the stellite installers. Just look in Coastrider or RTN. MiKE

I have a hard-drive recorder with built in freeview in the UK and they can be bought now easily for around £100. I find it hard to believe that they can only be bought from a satellite installer in Spain and not from a normal TV shop like Carrefour or similar.

Argos in Spain sell them : https://www.argosonline.es From 112 to 212 euros (Bush ones only but these are not too bad, I have a couple of Bush freeview boxes)
You could buy one on Amazon, even a UK one should work in Spain - Cheapest is £70 and a Humax HDR-2000T Freeview with HD TV Recorder is £168.99.

Hope this helps,

Jan

Hi...many thanks.
Yes...I find it hard to believe that you cannot find them in Spain. I have just bought my third one in the UK from Tesco of all places. Currys, PC World, Argos etc all sell them in the UK. I was beginning to think that the Spanish do not record TV!!
Thanks...I will have to investigate further!!
Paul.

The recorders with freeview built in are very common in Spain and are called grabador DVD con TDT. They have them in Media Markt, Carrefour and all the other electrical retailers and vary in price from cheap to rather expensive but comparable with the UK prices. Looking at the Carrefour and Media Markt websites and putting in grabador DVD comes up with loads that have built in TDT (Spanish equivalent of freeview)
The ones paul is talking about are the satellite recorders which are a little harder to find especially the ones with twin tuners.
Mind you, we have a Sony recorder with HDD and built in freeview but have to record from satellite via a SCART lead and it takes all the inputs we throw at it. We can, though, only record one channel and can't watch another on the same input. For that we would need an extra lead from the satellite (twin LNB fitted) and another tuner.
What we can do is record one input (for example a Spanish channel) whilst watching a satellite programme (and vice versa).

Try Go satellite down near the Arches in Quesada i remember seeing them on their website. The only reason i remember is because we have the freesat version in the UK and are thinking of bringing out with us when we move out later in the year

Careful if ordering online that you don't buy the wrong equipment -
Humax HDR-2000T Freeview with HD TV Recorder is £168.99.

Freeview is UK terrestrial, not satellite - you won't be watching BBC on that in Spain. Boxes marked DVB-T are no use in Spain for UK channels, make sure is Free to air / Freesat or receivers marked as DVB-S / DVB-S2 (S = satellite).
