Retuning Humax box following BBC changes

Retuning Humax box following BBC changes

Postby lllkb01 » Mon Mar 06, 2023 1:20 pm

I'm in England at present but my neighbour in Quesada is having problems receiving BBC channels on his Humax Freesat box following the recent re-arranging of the BBC channels.
I've advised him to do an automatic re-tune but he says that he still can't get the BBC channels. There is a language problem as he is Belgian. His dish is 1.8 meters so I'd have thought that he should be able to get almost everything.
Has anyone else had problems since the BBC re-arranging and what is the solution.
Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't need to retune the Humax boxes as they will automatically change if you have entered a UK postcode.
Tell him to go to settings and choose reset to factory settings. Then give him a UK postcode to enter and that should solve it. It is the BBC regional channels which are changing to HD so if you don't enter a postcode it won't put your preference at the top.
If it asks for a PIN then 0000 or 1234 or 9999 will do it unless he's entered a different one along the line.

Freesat (and Sky) boxes all automatically update whenever channels change frequencies. So no need to do anything to the box

Only if he actually has a "free to air" or similar receiver will they need to do a channel scan to get the channels on their new frequencies (including the C5 channel which changed frequencies in October last year).

There is no need to reset the box or input another postcode for a different BBC One region on 101, as all BBC One regional channels are already on the Freesat guide, in the 950s, so try them - no need to do any resetting.

BBC News HD on 200 is on the same frequency it has been on before the changes, and so if you were unable to get that channel before, then you will still not get it (or other) bbc hd channels now.

If you cannot get the channels, then it is NOT a region / box issue, but a dish size / location / alignment issue.

In some areas even 1.8m can be marginal so as satandpcguy says if anything has disappeared it's a dish issue not the box.

I'm in the position myself but fortunately my sat system is really just a backup as I now use IPTV.
