Differences in satellite dishes can be deceptive.

Below are 2 popular satellite dishes used locally. A 1.45 prime focus and a 1.4 metre offset.

Whilst on the surface of it, the 2 dishes sound very close in size - however one is round (prime focus) and one is oval (offset). When put together there is more of a difference than would first appear.

18 cms difference, when the smaller oval offset, is set sideways against the prime focus model.

1.45 shown is the Famaval prime focus. Famaval make the better prime focus dishes, though do not make the best offset models (though many locally offer these). Offset model shown is Marafa, though Tecatel offer the best dish of this type / size (offset 1.4), which has a superior gain to the Famaval & Marafa offset models. The Famaval prime focus (the larger dish shown in the image) is better still, as has a larger surface area and heavier duty build quality. It is a more expensive dish than the offset model.
