I don’t pay for the box , it’s a Gi set top box which the satellite is connected to , it’s all working but I’m trying to connect the universal controller and it’s asking who the provider is,

It will depend if the TV remote has a 'learning function' if it does, then you point the GI remote at the TV remote and it copies the button frequencies.

If it does not have a learning function, then usually they give you a list of codes which you put in 0001 for Samsung, 00002 for Sony etc - though as other poster mentions, doubt you'll find GI on the universal remote list - or i've not when checked previously.

Thanks Guys, I’ve accepted I have to use the Gi remote but another question! We also have a Cody box, again it’s connected and working but Should I be able to use the remote with that? As I can’t get that to connect either!
Sorry I’m pretty rubbish at this!

Kodi boxes / aka Android boxes, could be 'one of many manufacturers' - as there are no end of different manufacturers of this type of equipment. If you can locate the name of the manufacturer, this would be your starting point - but just as an opinion, i'd be surprised if that would work with the TV remote - unless as mentioned previously, the TV one has a learning option, then it won't matter if the other equipment is on the code list - you can just copy the buttons you use across.

The TV remote should state if it is a learning model. If not chances are, you'll be back to where you started, using 3 remotes.

I've found previously, that on the 'non learning' all in one remotes, often the piece of equipment you want to use is not on the code list, like GI as mentioned above (seen missing previously) and now so many other manufacturers of generic products, that quite often these 'all in one remotes', rarely seem to cover everything.

I also noticed another problem see often with the learning remotes - they can only learn 1 instruction per button per remote. On your box you have 1 button, with 2 instructions - on and off, is the same button. The amount of times i've seen this trip these remotes, so you can turn a device on, but have to use the original remote to turn off again. Stupid. I'm sure there's a device which can work around this, but i've yet to see one as not spending €200-€600 on a remote control, which is what you can get into spending on this type of equipment
