Assuming you mean for a satellite system?

If you want a box that records onto a hard drive, without a subscription and provides the 7 day program guide, then need to import a Freesat box, such as Humax.

An old Sky HDD box won't record without an active subscription.

If wanting a generic satellite receiver, these are available locally but do not have the 7-day Freesat program guide and you need an external memory stick or hard drive to record - they use a general format timer to record.

Freesat boxes have to be bought in the UK then shipped by a family member or friend. Freesat now make their own boxes, or have them made for them, Humax etc no longer make them as their licence has been removed. PC World ( Curry´s ) have them in stock but will not ship to Spain. Approx 200 pounds for the recording option.

The other alternative is a box with an operating system, Enigma 2, Linux which can be set up to pretend to be a Freesat box, but at the end of the day would cost about the same

Whilst you are correct in this statement - these Linux boxes are about as hard to use as any home device gets & always issues with these type of systems.

They are ok for a home hobbyist or someone who likes reprogramming things, but ultimately not that stable and simply put, most home users struggle with these - a Freesat branded box, ultimately would be the simpler solution.

Ultimately it will need to be brought over from the UK - as Freesat is a UK brand. Also caution with the prices, as we now will pay additional costs to import from the UK - so box could end up costing 25-30% more.

I'm not even sure if they are still making the Humax boxes anymore, as looks like production of the HDD ones stopped, but you can still pick them up 2nd hand, maybe even new at places.

Or switch to an IPTV system, which has catchup and ondemand and that way you don't need to worry - however these services are not subscription free.

Cannot disagree with Paul over the box, other than the unstable bit, switching to IPTV is an alternative, but if the internet fails, if you have a dish you still have TV.
Humax still make boxes, but not Freesat ones, only Freesat produce said boxes now.

But even if your internet fails you can read a book or enjoy the sunshine and then watch your programme on catch up tv
A lot of these services allow you to watch tv on your phone, so if the internet fails you can either watch it on there or relay it to another device ie. back to your tv.
