Sky Arts

Sky Arts

Postby 2Sheds » Sun Jan 17, 2021 1:12 pm

Sky Arts is now free to watch.
I know this to be this case with Freeview in the UK, and apparently it is also now on FreeSat.

This begs the question. Should it also be available on a standard Free To Air sat receiver (non Freesat)?

On my FTA box I have re-scanned (including a blind scan) but cannot see Sky Arts in the listing.

Am I mistaken in thinking that all Freesat channels should also be available on a standard FTA box?

Thanks for any tips or advice.

A standard FTA Box should work but It could be that Freesat have put Sky Arts on a satellite / Transponder that has a very weak footprint in this part of Spain so you cant pick it up. They are not obliged to make it accessible outside of the UK.

Thanks. I'm currently in the UK, and I cannot receive Sky Arts on my FTA box.
As FTA is probably more commonly used than Freesat in Spain, I'd be interested to know if anyone is able to receive Sky Arts on FTA.

Actually Sky Arts is on a rather strong beam. It is on the stronger "European" beam, and is on the same frequency as Pick and Sky news, and shouldbe easily available across most of mainland Spain.

Sky Arts has been free for several months now, the same time it was made free on Freeview in the UK.
Sky Arts HD is still a pay channel.

Yes, any free to air receiver should be able to pick it up, as long as you scan the correct frequency:
12070 H
DVB-S
SR 27500
FEC 5/6

One of mine has found it fine

Thanks for your help.
I cannot see settings for DVB-S or FEC 5/6

Is this the TP in question? On my FTA box I can see the following.
SAT = Astra2A 28.2E
TP Index = 55/141
Freq = 12070
Symbol Rate = 27500
Polarity = Horizontal

However, with this TP the Level =0 and Quality = 5%

Do I need to add a TP or edit this one. Sorry my Sat knowledge is very limited !

The easiest thing to do, is delete all exisiting channels and then run a BLIND SCAN - which most boxes have this option.

This will take a blind sweep of all frequencies and that way anything your dish can receive, will be shown and everything else will also be up to date. A lot of boxes may not be up to date in terms of frequency tables and also if wanting to add a missing frequency requires in adding the specific frequencies, then scanning that transponder in.

By just running a blind scan, its essentially a fresh scan from start to finish - so will update everything including any other channel frequencies and pick up any other changes or new channels available FTA.

Thanks. I've done a blind scan but no joy. As I mentioned earlier, when I look at TP 12070 there is no signal.
My set up is dual LNB but I cannot get Sky Arts on either. I'm completeley stumped because I appear to be able to receive all other progs ok.

It´s likely to be something else. One or a mix of below.

Dish not tuned correctly.

LNB not performing well on that frequency.

Signal loss elsewhere - cabling.

Even possible the satellite receiver doesn´t like that frequency - seen the odd gremlin where a box or satellite tuner has refused to scan something in, even though signal present. Rare, but seen it.

Only 100% is to check the signal firstly at the dish and work the way through the system, to find where the loss is.

A quick test would be to check to see if you able to watch Sky News UK (not ireland which has adverts in Euros!), which has been on that frequency since February last year, or Pick TV, which has been on that frequency since July last year? At least that would confirm if you are currently able to receive that frequency or not...assuming you did a scan after they moved to that frequency!
