Can you just take your UK Sky card and use it in a box here in Spain. Or does each card have to be married with the box? Maybe why some people bring over their Sky box and card complete to use over here?

It works fine over here just don't connect it to the internet or they will see by your IP address that you are in spain and cut it off so I have been told.

The card has to be paired with the box. In the past you had to call Sky to do this, but now you can do it online.
You will need to re-pair with your home box once you get back to the UK.
There's a possibility that if you do this too often then Sky might start asking questions abou what you're up to.

Plus, when you do that you have stuff that you've recorded at home and haven't had chance to watch yet. If you're over here for a couple of months then you'd probably want to take the chance to catch-up on some of that backlog rather than it being sat on another box at home that you can't access.

The disadvantage is that if you've scheduled something to record during the period that the box is unplugged then you'll miss it, unless you do catch-up. Also, if there's anyone at home while you're away then they can't watch any TV - ipunless you have another Sky box with no card to give them the FTA channels, but without the ability to record, or pause live TV.
