Sky TV over the internet

Any issues using Amazon fire tv in Spain? Amazon have said you can use the stick on holiday in Spain but wondering if there is a cut-off point (i.e. monthly usage)
We have UK subscription.
I believe that the UK type catch up services won't work - 4, 5 ITV Hub etc. I"m GUESSING Amazon prime will work & Netflix. Can't say for sure, as don't own a firestick or experimented with one - bit off my radar. People here tend to use (or cowboys sell) the hacked ones so can put Kodi on & for that, you may as well get a different device altogether as works better! Which is why we did not consider stocking or selling them. Also Amazon have stated they will seek to block hacked sticks if they can, so people who have been obtaining content outside of Amazon's eco structure with a hacked Amazon stick, may well wake up one day to a non-functioning stick - BRICKED. A possibility. No need to worry, if a standard Amazon firestick.

The general 'rule of thumb' is UK specific catch up type services are geoblocked overseas - so whether it be your Amazon stick, a Roku streaming box, a Sky or Freesat satellite box - the online UK terrestrial type catch up services (Sky news excepted) tend to not work in Spain.

However, you may be able to circumnavigate the blocking if you can either get a VPN on the device itself or have a VPN router with a subscription.

Summary, it should work to an extent but are unlikely to get all UK content/catchup (not without VPN). I am not specifically aware of any 30 day policy of using overseas, such as Sky - this one may be better answered on a specialist Amazon firestick type forum - there will be one...

Hi,

There are 2 approaches to this - either another Sky box, a multiroom one from the UK, which you can obtain, you'll need a minimum secondary subscription to activate the recording function (or was the case last time I checked), then bring over to Spain. SKy box won't record without an active subscription.

The second approach would be to use an IPTV service, which will give you all your usual channel and then considerably more - generally these do not record in the same manner as a Sky box - BUT, many services have the catch up, which you won't get in Spain (without VPN) with your Sky box. So that an extent negates the need to always record, as if you've missed someting yesterday - it doesn't matter that you have or not recorded, as you can watch it anyway on catch up.

You can record on some IPTV services, in a manner, by downloading off catch up with a memory stick or hard drive - so you don't need a timer or to press record as such. Also with the IPTV type services many have large on-demand type services, with films and box sets /series, so you have much more available content, as and when you want to watch it - so you tend to find the need to record, is not really anywhere as near as necessary/important - as 'traditional recording', simply down to most of the content you would record, is simply available anyway and the level of content much greater (in some instances), than a satellite service - as multiple services can be combined by IPTV provider.

I’m sure I read somewhere that Sky Q was going to be broadcast via internet sometime soon?

Re Firestick. I’ve got one and ‘hacked’ it myself - it really just means putting Kodi on it. However, Kodi is mostly crap, if you’re going down that route you’re better off downloading some decent apk’s such as Platinium TV or Cinema. If you combine those with a sub to Real Debrid, you get loads of the latest movies, tv shows etc - and mostly stable HD streams too.
