Suggestions for TV and broadband

Suggestions for TV and broadband

Postby Niktam » Sat Dec 20, 2014 9:50 pm

I'm looking at getting broadband installed either combined with TV or alternatively I can go down the separate satellite TV route. As for broadband I'm not resident full time so I would like to be able to just have it turned on when I am visiting.Advice on cost, ease of use, contract would be great. there are so many to chose from and so many different packages.

Many thanks I've already emailed them. I've been looking through all the old posts and they seem to be popular in the immediate area.

Need to separate out TV and internet services as different to UK. DVB labs fine for basic / cheap internet (2-4? Mbps). TV wise they do not offer much.

Locally where we can get TV via satellite (not the case in all parts of Spain), this offers a superior service to IPTV & generally if it is possible to locate a satellite dish, this would be recommended first. This will give you a far superior service, in picture & audio quality (as original format). For free to air TV you do not need to pay any subscriptions for your BBC's & ITV's (and 200 or so other channels) & because is original format you have plenty of options available such as HD, Sky, surround sound.

Most rebroadcasters (DVB labs / Ole / Torresat) charge a monthly fee for free to air TV. This is a reduced service both in terms of reliability (if issues with internet = lose TV), picture quality and channel availability. So you end up pay monthly fee for a limited service, which adds up to a considerable amount over a given period.

If using a satellite dish, you get the same as you would get back in the UK - pay for the hardware - once, then watch your TV for free after that, no need to switch on or off services or pay a monthly fee.

Definitely agree that satellite is the way to go for TV if you have room for a decent size dish. Much cheaper and better in the long run.

Well,as I said in a previous post, I would have recommended dvblab to anyone up to about six months ago. It's gone slow and, in the last couple of months especially, has switched off on a regular basis. Shame as I've been with them for nearly 3 years but even getting on to the internet is a hit and miss affair. Telephone calls cutting out half way through, speeds when good are very good but 3 Mb plus is very difficult to achieve. Most times below 1Mb when it actually doesn't disappear. And I live on the flat part of Dona Pepa less than half a km from the transmitter. Impossible to use my android box for even simple things like filmon.
I have phoned several times but get varying excuses from waiting for equipment, too many people using the system (I could understand at certain times but this is any time morning, day and evening) and other companies interfering with the signal.
Shame but I am just waiting for a proper landline to be fitted to at last give some reliability.

Well I looked on here and after taking a balanced view of the advice I went for a dvblab installation. They turned up when they said and I paid my 109 euros plus 19 for one month. I can say that on top the hill in Rojales it works fine as I was expecting it to go off every evening but this is not the case. Getting just under 6Mbps and just under 1Mbps upload all the time.
I only have the internet installed as I will go down the separate standalone TV dish and my own box later in the year.
I find the TV/Internet options are very confusing in Spain because in the UK I have very little choice just BT for broadband,a TV Ariel ,Freeview or a Sky dish. Our rural exchange will not support any other equipment due to cost and as for fibre you only find that in the fields.
