Not always the best answer, I got a new satellite system 2 years ago from Go Satelite and after the storm lost most channels and now he tells me that I need to upgrade the dish ? very expensive way to get free TV. Going to put in one of these adroid systems for TV & Films they are on sale in Ireland from €59 to €129 and bring it over in January and see how it works in Spain.

That does sound a little odd. If you were getting channels before the storm & it was knocked out of alignment, then logic would dictate a retune would be all that was needed?

You should not need to upgrade a satellite dish unless too small one was installed in the first place. Some companies were installing smaller dishes 1 - 1.2 metres a couple of years ago - which we advised against. Reason for this is the satellite at the time was a temporary one - Astra 1N and we knew this was going to change. We advised our customers to install a minimum of a 1.4 metre dish locally and those that did, all have their TV.

Unless you may have been a little unlucky and perhaps bought a dish before the new satellites were up. There are no changes due to these satellites (IE replacements) for 12 years. Perhaps the dish you had in, is just on the cusp of reception - so nearly not quite? Difficult to know exactly as the defining point is what did they install in the first place?

We have customers, as well as ourselves that have had the same dish up, working consistantly for over 8 years. Right dish size for location. There are no further changes to the satellites planned - Astra 2E, 2F & 2G as they are all under 2 years old. Sated to have a 12-15 year life span.

We have a client base of approx 3000 & after the storms did 20-30 call outs, no damage, retunes that in real terms is a very small percentage - and most things need a little maintenance from time to time. Paying for a technician to retune / update, once every year or usually 2/3 is considerably less than paying a rebroadcaster 300 a year, every year.

The android boxes do not really compare to satellite the UK terrestrials are of lower resolution & audio not brilliant. Ok for films, poor for sport. If you are not technically minded or have kids fiddling with settings, won't be long before you have a problem (youtube is your friend....) They are o.k as a bolt on, but personally find it too frustrating and unstable for a main system - also depends on how well they are set up & the hardware itself - lot of variation. I do use these boxes quite often (support) - though can tell you, this type of IPTV equipment (subscription free), uses more support than any other product. Subscription based IPTV solutions are different again, easier to use, different functions / quality.

All systems have their pro's and cons - satellite gives the best quality and free for FTA, most economical, IPTV or subscription based services offers niceties such as catch up TV, video on demand and simple program guide, subscription free IPTV, is well....free.
