Translating a Spanish Document ?

Translating a Spanish Document ?

Postby JohnES » Sat Mar 19, 2022 1:15 pm

I have used Google Translate to Translate Spanish documents into English for many years by scanning in the document as a PDF file and then selecting it from my computer to translate into English. I have tried it this morning and Google translate states that it cannot translate a scanned PDF file. It does not recognise JPEG files either. Does anybody know how to get around this problem ?

Perhaps open it on another device, then use the app on your phone to scan the words on that screen, and translate it, then copy and paste it in English somewhere else.

I had not tried to open the file and highlight the text to use translate. I have now tried it but I cannot highlight the text and clicking the r/h mouse button does not work. It does not give me the translate to English option. I tried to translate a PDF file that has been translated before and I get the same message that Google cannot translate a scanned PDF file. Something has changed in the Google Translate programme.

More like something wrong with the OCR program you used to scan to PDF
Why not scan to a word doc
I have just copied the text from a PDF file and opened Google Translate and it change it from Spanish to English no problems

Thanks JPEG but there is no option to scan as a word doc. The options are Bitmap (*. PDF), JPEG (*.JPEG), Multi-tiff (*.TIF), PDF (*.pdf) Print image matching II (*JPEG), Print image matching II (*.TIF) and TIFF (*.TIF). When I do scan docs as a PDF I notice that they are processed by Adobe Acrobat Reader. When I open one of these files it is opened by Adobe. I notice that under Adobe there is an option to convert to a word doc but you have to pay a monthly fee for this service. As I mentioned in my previous note I did open a PDF file from my documents which was scanned in last year and successfully translated but I get the message now that it cannot translate scanned PDF files. I have no idea how Google Translate knows that it has been scanned in as a PDF file as they are are supposed to by a valid format.
