TV Remote control

TV Remote control

Postby Wingnut » Mon Dec 07, 2020 5:35 pm

When choosing source input to the T.V. the remote up and down buttons often have no effect.

However, they work fine when scrolling up and down the channel list.

I have changed the remote batteries, but no improvement.

Can you suggest whether this is the remote or the T.V. that is at fault and whether there is a remedy?

(It's a Samsung T.V.)

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Unusual for a remote to work in one menu and not another but very often what's needed is a clean inside.

Behind each button is a conductive tab which contacts pads on the printed circuit board, over time they somehow become contaminated causing intermittent or complete failure but cleaning will bring them back to full functionality.

Most remotes simply click together of have one or two small screws holding them.

Wash the button membrane in soapy water and clean the printed circuit board with an alcohol wipe.

I've repaired dozens of remotes like that and actually can't recall failing with any.

I have a Samsung TV and it's remote is just snapped together.

Pairing is only applicable to Bluetooth devices and I've never ever seen a TV which uses that for communication!

I have a Samsung TV. On the back of my TV, below the input ports, there is a black toggle which I assume will enable you to move between choices for hdmi sources etc.

If you have an Android phone or tablet then there are a number of remote control apps you can use with that, having tried most I've found this one to be the best.

I usually check that the remote is sending out a signal on the function not working.

If it is it's the TV not responding, if it's not then as a previous post says its most likely contacts on the handset.

To check handset operation, hold the controller in front of your phone with the camera turned on. When you press any button the camera will see the infra red beam which is invisible to the eye.

Some handsets will stop working on some functions with batteries that are slightly low on voltage. Check that the batteries you have changed are at full voltage or new.

I agree with justginger just keep pressing sauce button until you reach the sauce you want. In my case it would be HMDI 1 .
